Thanks for the "passive mode" suggestion. After trying for 14 hours to get this site to upload, I checked this box and up it went. Not sure why there was no issues with the other three sites but I don't think my client cares. The site is live!!

Hello, folk. I am trying to change some of my Product Detail Optional fields to input boxes. Someone please tell me where the product details live.

What do you mean by "product details"? Explain what exactly you are trying to do.

@Eric I want to change some of the drop down options on each item detail to text input fields. See the attached image. You see that drop down menus work for some of my options and some don't. I have looked for something that looks like $options = array in so many of the files that I had to go take a nap. Can you tell me where the product details are in SCC's uploaded files? -Thanks

Dana if we told you that we'd have to .....
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

You're probably right, but it won't hurt much. :P After all, I survived the egg hunt. And, that was excruciating.

Hiya Dana,

That isn't something possible with the SCC program as of yet. Not sure if adding any type of input field will be added in a future release or not, or in a future release of the Pro version (not something that we'll see in the initial release that I'm aware of). I wouldn't suggest you play with those files all that much as you could break the shop and there isn't support here for external changes made to the files that the CC programs create. Make sure you realize you are exploring those waters at your own risk and your customer's risk. I'll assume you have a clue what you're doing, but just in case you don't I wouldn't want you to have to start over due to lack of support for altering the files that SCC outputs.

Other than that if you still persue it, good luck on it, there's a few people here that have done some pretty awesome things with their shops that altered their files too so it's not impossible, just tricky and could be safety issues to you and your customer etc.

@ Jo Ann - That the nicest disclosure I've ever read.

Please look at the store... http://www.getinthegamestore.com and, you'll see what I mean. The products are personalized prints. To customize the prints the customer has to be able to communicate what they want the custom fields to say.

Please look at the image attached. You can see that a drop down menu works for selecting a jersey number, but not for telling me what name to put on the jersey. Do you see what I mean?

I promise not to hold it against anyone if I screw something up. ;) I tried to accomplish this with web form builder and hit walls there, too. Now it's time to hack and crack.

Well, back to my own personal egg hunt.

The only thing is you must remember is to keep copies of your hacked and cracked files to upload separately each time you upload updates on your store.

Well the thing is that the Option Fields that are built into the program are for "displaying" rather than input. You won't get them to work with input without competely redoing the scripts I would think since they aren't meant to do that at all. Those spaces are only to tell your customers size availabilities, colors, styles etc. so unfortunately you won't be able to do that with the program files. Now whether you're brave and smart enough to manually do it, that I don't know lol.

I do understand your pain on it though, there have been a few people requesting this (more than a few) and I would even suggest you go to the SCC suggestions thread and add your 2 cents in there to suggest it again. I'm always of the mind that the more people that request something (something feasible of course lol), the more chance we are to get it installed in the software so it can't hurt to add your post to the thread too.

Either way, good luck on it and do keep us posted on if you actually do get that to work, even CC would probably be interested in knowing that. :P

Having said all that, A form on your pages would work just fine as long as you are able to stress to your customers that they need to fill it out to give you the details of the customization. Here's a thought too.

What about a landing page after their purchase (with a note of course in each Products detail page saying they will be routed to that page after purchase for customization). If you redirect them after their purchase you can send them to a page for customization which then asks them to please fill out any customization needed for their products. Make the form inclusive so there are choices for each of your product types and any possible customization needed. I think that would work great and the only drawback is just needing to match the customization with the order itself.
Just a thought until such a time that CC devs realize we need this feature and hopefully add it :)
