Hi folks
I have a friend, who has 4 enormous videos & I mean ENORMOUS

each video is at least 2.4 GIGABYTES total split into 4 parts at the moment they are all mp4 format
eg
video1
part1
part2
part3
part4
etc etc
I have never in my whole life had to think about such sizes.

so
I am at a loss on how to even begin to get them up & running who can host such things/(if anyone can)
he was wanting to put them onto pages within RSD or SDv3, which I am sure cannot be done

any suggestions ideas would be extreemly helpful

I'm no expert here, but I think that the first thing you have to do must be to find a web host that can take that size and number of videos. When you have such a host, ask them how to get the videos uploaded. My guess is, that using the host's control panel instead of some ftp client, will be better and faster, don't know if there are any size limits. Perhaps send the videos to the web host and let them deal with it (*).
Another thing is, that you will need at least two more file formats in order to cover all the browsers, both the current ones and one or two previous versions. This site has something about the file formats needed: https://blog.online-convert.com/the-per … a-website/

When you have got this far, adding them to a website should be a breeze, me thinks.

(*) I have a friend who once tried to send the contents of a music CD as an email attachment. That clogged up their mailing system for weeks until I came for a visit and was able to enter their mail server and delete it. So use WeSend or something ;)

Near the foot of this page at Vimeo it says there are no file-size or duration restrictions with them, but it looks to me that it could be quite costly.

Hi Frank
Thanks for that but here in Indonesia the Indonesian Censorship Board have blocked Vimeo (anything that has what they consider to be "Adult Content" (doesn't have to necessarily Pornography) ) is blocked, so I can't even get to Vimeo (unless I use VPN, but then I'm still restricted to the size of the files, unless I use a premium version, which is also expensive)

Just for a laugh, I downloaded 1 of the parts (video4 part1) it took 16 hours 21 minutes and 35 seconds to download and used up my whole months worth of Data Usage :mad:

Your friend should send the videos to you on DVDs. Could be quicker than downloading 4 x 4 parts of some 16 hours...

Yes Inger we have already thought of that as an option, but as the postal service here is unreliable and at best at least some 30 days to get here from Texas, then the hassle of possible customs needing to see what's on them (no worries about that as it is just a series of interviews with a WWII veteran, but an inconvenience one is trying to avoid.

The problem though still remains about, hosting them and showing them to whoever wants to see them.

I am going to suggest that he make short edited clips of the full 4 videos, to show on his site, then offer the full unedited versions for people to download if they want.

He isn't keen on Youtube due to the automated advertising/suggestions for next videos (doesn't believe me when I say I can get rid of them. He also doesn't believe that they can be made totally private.

Thanks for all suggestions will keep scratching my head to try get something workable for him.
