How to edit inline link? - Post ID...

Maybe I'm missing something simple, but it is driving me nuts. I haven't used SD for several months now, and when I try to change a link inside a paragraph, I can't seem to get the link recognized by the editor. I highlight the link extents, but I can't do anything with it. I'm careful to select only the previous link area. I can't change it, remove the link or add a new link (hitting the + sign). Where I would type a link it says "Not Available".

I don't remember this as ever being an issue, but of course the first thing I did before starting work was to upgrade the program. So I'm not sure if it is the program or me.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Marty,
Highlight the text and dbl click it to get to the inline editor.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

try just placing your cursor on the first character that has the link you want to change if the * sign doesn't highlight try the next character etc i have had similar and it turned out that when putting the original link on a selection of text, I must have missed the last character, such that when I went to change the link & highlighted the whole word (s) the same thing as you are experiencing happened, I found it by doing what I just explained

My experience (version 3.5 build 2979) is as follows.

(a) To edit the text of the link, editing that text on the canvas will update the text in the 'Set' part of the link editor (i.e. the box that appears when one clicks on the pencil item).
(b) To edit the http(s) address of the link or any other aspect of it that relates to the link editor, I do not need to select the whole of the link text on the canvas, but simply click within it*. The link editor automatically applies its edits to the whole of the link.
(c) To edit the http(s) address of the link, one does not need to click on the pencil icon, but simply edit within the 'Link' box to the left of the pencil icon.

There has been at least one significant change in the working of the Edit Mode. That change was mentioned in Suzanne's changelog of 8 June 2018**, which said "Squashed some bugs. This includes ... pasting code into the Text Editor not displaying as plain text."*** It may be that Marty's problem has arisen from his upgrading the program.

Frank

* This does not work however if I have edited just part of the link text to, say, italic, and then click within that italicised part.
** This seems to have been subsequently removed or moved from https://www.coffeecup.com/forums/site-d … ost281353.
*** For me that hadn't been a bug, but a feature that I had used a lot in links within text, as it permitted me to include special characters (particularly non-breaking spaces). I have been advised that addressing this issue is on the CoffeeCup team's roadmap, and am hopeful that version 4 will in some way sort it. At present I work around the matter by putting any text requiring special characters into an HTML element.

Thanks to all for the advice. Frank hit it on the head. I had bolded the link so when I removed the bold the link became editable again. I feel better that it was the upgrade. At least I can blame the problem on something other than my swiss cheese memory for once.
