When I first evaluated this software, I peeked at the code that it generates and saw all the div blocks and thought, cool, their doing it right! Now that I own the software and have taken a good look at the output HTML, I can only say that it's CRAP! It's nothing but a bunch of absolute positioning!! No liquid layouts possible with this travesty!

I feel completely ripped off and would like my money back!
When we look at the things around us, we only see them as they were in the past. We really have no perception of reality, at all!

And that is why we have trial versions. ;)

Unfortunately, Visual Site Designer cannot create pages that adjust to fill the browser screen (liquid layouts). You can enter a custom width/height setting to fill more of the screen, but keep in mind that anyone whose screen is smaller than your defined size will get a scrollbar (horizontal and/or vertical depending on what isn't viewable). You can center the design within the browser window so that any extra space is filled with the background color/image using the Page Window.

@Prehistoric,
I agree that VSD isn't perfect but it works for me (though I still want Master Pages). That said, given the types of concerns and the large number of issues you are expressing I'm not sure this is the right forum for this discussion. This forum is for suggestions to improve VSD rather than problem solving.

VSD is a joy to use and personally I can do anything with it but I would like two things
Be able to change an extension of a page to PHP
Be able to add my script <?php -------?> to top of page
I realise that this may stop a proper preview but I can handle that. presently I am using both VSD and the Editor plus Wamp's Localhost to preview.

I guess that is the only thing that would turn VSD from good to great.

I would LOVE to be able to say this, unfortunately, I CAN'T EVEN OPEN IT. I feel ripped off....
I wish I could still use FRONT PAGE. It worked EVERY TIME.

Configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.

I have said it once, or may be a dozen more times in this forum, my technical programmer friend says

" how can you produce websites, make them live and yet not understand what it is, what it does, or how it works "

He hates my reply

" Easy i take my magic CC Ball, stuff it full of amateur crap, screw the top on it, throw it at America and shortly afterwards other people can see my amateurish crap all over the internet."

In my signature is his daughters website for photography, i started it a week before she finished college, made it live two weeks later, and she gained her first professional booking 8 weeks later, and a handful since from a google search !!!!, Tim still hasn't finished the one he started for her, that will inevitably when finished be far better than mine, and its now appx 2 years later.

The moral here, is mine might be VSD crap, but she is earning a living, google likes it, customers seem to like it, and the same can be said for my wedding car site, he had a professional website for 5 years, with not one order, this year so far he has taken over £30,000 worth of bookings

So if the VSD program is crap, and i am an amatuer producing crap, why are three people, me include making a living from it

Scott, i must have earned my free copy of Direct FTP by now :) not that i would know what to do with it, after all ? what is FTP Fun for Total Pratts (remove) :(

Ahh! Viv I love it. You are in no way an amateur and I refuse to accept you as one. Everybody has a skill and so what if you turn your back on html. I have visited your sites and I seen nothing about them that is unprofessional. A program is a tool and what is accomplished with it defines that persons ability.

Being an expert in coding with html is no claim to fame, it is what you do with it that counts. The proof is in the pudding not what comes out of the mouth.

To Pre me old mate I worked for over 30 years in electrical/ mechanical engineering that is just a different type of plumbing in a well engineered container and micro controllers are either on or off. Take a look at what Viv has created and bow to the master. I too can program but I admit I do not have Viv's design skills.

VSD is what it is no more or no less. You either use it or not it it's free choice. Whilst doing my apprenticeship doing a stint in the tool room my foreman said something I shall never forget

I have gone through life with the shouting voice of my metal work teacher in my head

" Foster, use your bl...y initiative "

Came out of school with a CSE in metalwork and nothing else, can't spell, lousy grammer, but i make great signet rings EVEN if i say so my self :)
