My new site is up and running. The images load slowly for me, but maybe it's just my 768 kbps DSL.

I would appreciate any suggestions for improvement. Thanks!

Well, here is the reason your images are loading so slowly... You are having the browser ask 28 different times for 13 different images. Now, I know this is VSD doing this, I do not know how to fix it since I do not use VSD but I am sure if you ask in the VSD forum they may be able to help you. They saving in kbs or bytes does not really matter, it is the HTTP requests that your site is serving that does... Here is a list of those images that are referenced.

The following resources have identical contents, but are served from different URLs. Serve these resources from a consistent URL to save 2 request(s) and 1.8KiB.

I would do a screen shot of your site with the text removed from the header area and crop the header area only in a photo editor and bring this in for your header area in VSD as one single image instead of adding all of those individual circles. Should make the page load way faster.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Also, on your home page you have two links that are the same image on the same page but only one image is showing.

Looks like they sit on top of each other. Might want to take a look at that as well.

But nice site!

Thanks, for some reason it was like this on every page, good thing is i know what it was and its been fixed. many thanks..

This is one of the overall best VSD sites I've seen in the past year. Congratulations on the website, and thanks for sharing!

James Kirk, thank you for your kind words! I have put a lot of thought and effort into my site. I'm glad it shows.

Rolly and SirAge, I knew the duplicate images were slowing down not only my uploads, but also the loading of my pages. I had read numerous other forum threads about this, but for some reason I was having a mental block as to the easiest and best way to eliminate all those duplicate images.

As Rolly suggested, I have created one image to be my header and am now working to add it to my 65+ pages. I'm sure that will help my uploads go much faster.

Dumb question, but now that my header exists as one image with all those circles in it, can I safely delete the image files for the individual circles?

You can delete those images. But, I would only do it after you have switched the main header out. Because if you do it now, the little bubbles will not show until replaced with the new header image. :D

Hi,

I did my website with VSD about a year ago. It looked OK to me when I was done, but I've seen some very nice websites since (from competitors), and think mine looks very plain/basic in comparison.

At this point I'm thinking of scrapping what I've got, but thought I'd post here to see if people thought that what I have now is worth salvaging. Thanks.

Hello Nathaniel,

It is always good to redesign after a few years. Your site could use a little refurbishing. It looks good. Thanks for sharing. :D

Very nice site to be a first one!

I do have some constructive help not criticism. :P

This will help you site out a lot in the page speed area...

The only main thing I see, is that you have scaled a lot of your images down with HTML or CSS... And what that does is, when a user comes to your site. Their browser downloads an image that is we will say 800x800 and the file size is 50kb but you have it scales down to 400x400 yet the file size is still 50kb. It you were to edit this image and change the dimensions to 400x400 it will reduce the file size and allow the user to download that image quickly, because instead of 50kbs it is now around 25kb...

Now, does not seem like much when you are talking about one image. And it is not. But I see 7 images that are scaled on your home page alone. Here is a site speed report for you and it will also tell you how to scale these images down. :D

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice, I will be sure to do that asap. I didnt think site speed was a problem as I have had no complaints and it loads very quick at home. But thankyou very much. I am hoping to start making money from it by the end of this year.
Thanks again
