What Is Less Than "a Newbie"? Me!

Hi, a friend suggested I checkout out this site and community for ideas on how a non-technical(non-programmer) can create and manage an online revenue stream.

I did check some of the posts before entering mine. I think my friend was wrong. He is a programmer and is very good with web development as he does it for a living. I am not.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to build a web site. Or where to host it. Or how to earn income from the web site. It sounds like it takes years and years of programming courses, sales training, marketing training, copy writing skills, and a whole lot more.

Without wasting anyone's time, I am curious if anyone is using the CoffeeCup products to earn income online? If so, would you be willing to share what it takes and how someone with my lack of knowledge and experience could maybe do something similar?

The CoffeeCup software seems way out of my league as a newbie. Does everyone here have a programming background?

Thanks, all, for considering my off-the-wall post. I figure the only way to find out is to ask.

I use it everyday to make money. :P I am a Website Designer and I use the HTML editor and Form Builder and SCCP and a few other programs.

The programs are very easy to use as long as you have the HTML knowledge to use them. If you do not know how to code HTML then I would suggest using VSD (Visual Site Designer). It has a small learning curve. But you do not need to know how to code to us this program.

Take a look and ask more questions if need be.

Delorean site in my signature was made with SCCP and SCDP for the cart, and VSD for the home pages.

I don't won't can't and probably never will do code of any type.

If its a shop your after, i recommend starting with a free trial download of SCCP (shopping cart creator pro) download it when you have little to do for a couple of days, and you can play, and ask questions in the forum as you do.

Most of the carts have matching VSD home pages as templates, so start simple with the templates, and then we can all walk you through improving as you learn.

None of it is that hard, as long as you have plenty of TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

Thank you both very much!

If I was to begin with the Visual Editor, could I ,at a later time, edit that code with the HTML editor?

Is there a list of the features supported by the Visual Editor? I did find the product overview page. I was just wondering if there was anymore detail elsewhere.

Lastly, besides actual hands-on doing for learning HTML5 and/or CSS, do you recommend any books.

BTW - I really likes the helpsite.sirage.com web site.

Again, thank you.

Best wishes,
Greg

Hiya Greg,

If you're planning to learn coding, I would highly suggest not using VSD and editing later. Although that "IS" a possible thing to do, the code that VSD spits out is definitely not the type of code you'll be learning to edit when learning HTML and CSS and it can be quite messy trying to edit it manually. Don't get me wrong, it works great, and does a great job making websites, but the code using for visual setups is not the norm for html coding so it's not setup easily to edit manually. The best way to see what I mean is to download the trial of both the VSD and the HTML Editor and work up a site in VSD even just use one that's already a template just for the heck of it. Save it and export it (or whatever it is you do to save it so you can see the html files, someone hopefully will chime in here as I don't recall the process for that).

Once you have exported or saved the site from VSD, open the files with the HTML Editor. If you have any knowledge at all on code editing you'll be able to see the difference here with what a normal HTML site page looks like. If you're not, have your friend take a look and he can tell you what's what.

If you plan to learn coding, then use the HTML Editor and do it that way so you can learn as you go. If you use VSD you won't learn anything at all about coding, and what you "do" learn will be really confusing when you look at VSD's code.

You can most definitely just stick with the VSD program though and not really need to learn a lot about HTML or CSS other than a few basics along the way. That's always an option, I'm just saying if you already plan to learn coding, then go for it from the start :)

Besides an HTML/CSS book or 2 (or online learning), the CC Editor templates are a good way to get familiar with building web pages. I'd download a free trial and have a go at it.
If it seems too much for now, use VSD to get something up and running quickly. If you want to re-create it with the Editor later, you can reuse your text, images and graphics.

Some HTML/CSS knowledge is good to have even with VSD and/or the Shopping Cart software. No program does it all, but you can add your own code to VSD and SCC Pro – if you know how ;)

I would like to add my 2 cents worth. Greg you said you wanted to make money with an online presence.
What as been suggested is the means. What you should do first is consider what you are planning to offer. Is it product a service or information as each has its own requirement. There are other ways too. A successful site gets many hits a day and site space can be valuable and can be used to advertise other sites. Adsense and Adbrite are two that come to mind. I earn quite a bit from adds on my site as well as products I sell.

What I am saying is check out the market set a goal then reach for the suggested tools to achieve it

Hi all,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am in the midst of a crazy, busy week and haven't been able to check back until now. I will re-read this thread later today and re-focus. Sorry for the delay.

Best wishes,
Greg
