switching hosting and keeping domain...
If I decide to host my side, I would need to switch from my current host, WebHostingBuzz. I would have to keep my current domain name.

Whas your domain name (A) purchased by yourself from a separate registrar ?
Or was it (B) included free as part of your present hosting package.
If (A) it will be relatively simple, if (B) you will need to contact your hosting provider to confirm they will release it, or convert your account to registrar only account and set a re-direct for you.

Canceling your Hosting package will not cacncle your domain. Your domain is your domain. Now, it does depend if your domain is a real one... If it is www.yourdomainnamehere.com then it is yours. If it is www.yourdomainnamehere.webhostingbuzz.com then you will not be able to keep it.
It it is your domain just contact your provider and ask them to Unlock the domain so that it may be transfer, or you can just point your DNS (Name Servers) to your new domain.

There are a few threads in CC forum already where disgruntled users have had a FREE domain included with their hosting package, and having closed the hosting, or requested transfering out, have hit a brick wall with their hosting provider.
I for 1 fell foul of this with the wedding car site in my signature, hosted elswhere as a .com
Do a whoos check, and you will find it still registered to Trevor who owns the site, BUT the Hosting companies registrar, renewed it on cancelation and are refusing to part with it, or change registrar details , so a .com search looks BAD
Fortunately I knew how to deal with this at the outset, Trevor owned Both .com & .co.uk and as he is local business only the hosting company only had the ,com with that getting #1 ranking
I re set the google webmasters tools to .co.uk and and uploaded to SDRIVE on .co.uk and within 3 weeks forced the old site down to P10
Could have been disastrous, and the registrar, knows that, and tried to take advantage hoping to get a premium for the .com
Hence my answer to the question here, as from experience. Check first, close account after not before

Yes Viv is right... If they are offering you a "Free domain for life" that means you get that Domain name Free for the life of your account... But you should know that if you cancel your account they will cancel a free domain that you are getting.

Thank you all for the help. I do own the domain. I am really enjoying my trial on Coffee Cup!

I would like to go back to the original question - How do we do this? I too own my domain name.
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
