I learned on Front Page. I loved it, but it's gone. Microsoft Expressions is not doing the job (cannot add a link to a picture or word any longer). I have been doing simple websites for 17 years. Information, pictures, and links. I have several that I need to update but have no workable program. I use javascript sometimes. No PHP. No forms or shopping carts. Do not like Wordpress as I cannot update websites in Wordpress created on some other platform. I cannot afford to pay $159/ month for this. I would like to pay for the program upfront. Free programs are too limited. Some programs I have tried to install to my computer, my Windows Defender has prevented this from occurring. Please help. I got a warning about installing CoffeeCup. I emailed the owners 3 months ago. No answer. I have spent hours on the internet trying to resolve this on my own. I already have a website host for my sites. Only need an editor. Please help me. thanks.

Hello Amy
First of all with the windows defender message there is an option that you have to select that allows the application through, Coffee Cup software is 100% safe and once it has been installed once then that message from defender will not (or shouldn't appear again.

secondly, the software Site Designer (now version 5) isn't exactly WYSIWYG,
it's more like a
What You Do Is What You Get And See
I call it WHDIWHYAWYS
by that I mean that yes there is a visual canvas that you can insert elements/components etc, into it thereafter, it's up to you to do any styling etc as to how YOU want it & any elements etc within to appear/react etc.

Please don't be alarmed or off-put by that, if you are savvy about designing/developing even in a small way, it is easy enough to master.

So basically unlike with some WYSIWYG builders that when you insert it, may already be styled for centred)
positions, heights widths etc

With Site Designer, you will most likely have to do all that by telling the App what you want it to do, by using the available styling controls that are available. (Hence What You Do Is What You See)

Finally, I would say that in my humble opinion and experience Site Designer is one of the best apps around of its type, the forum is full of normal regular users who are willing and able to help with any advice/solutions you may encounter,

Should you decide to take the leap of faith my advice would be to give the free trial a tryout, it's a fully loaded trial with everything available,

however I would also suggest that you use the trial period to experiment, get to know your way around the app, use the forum if you need, once the trial is over, then you can decide to purchase it, and then start to update the sites you have to do, without the added pressure of both learning a new way to do things and a time limit.

Thank you Wayan Jaya! That was most helpful advice. My fears are lessened about the installing of the program. Should I like it, how much does the "full version" cost? Hopefully it is a one-time fee, and not a monthly fee. How long does the trial version last? You have been so helpful. Finally got some answers! I have read good reviews about CoffeeCup!

The free trial lasts for 14 days
I don't know how much Site Designer costs but you can check out the packages here
SITE DESIGNER
https://www.coffeecup.com/designer/

SITE PACK
https://www.coffeecup.com/store/bundles/sites-pack/

I believe the price is a one off fee which includes a subscription for all UPDATES (not UPGRADES) for 1 year, from purchase

The licence of the software is yours forever to use, the subscription fee is included in the initial price for 1 year from purchase, and thereafter becomes an annual fee, however, you can choose after the first year is up not to subscribe if you do not wish to, and you can still continue to use the software forever, but you will not qualify for any updates thereafter unless you decide to subscribe for them again.

Thank you, again, Wayan Jaya! I have printed and will pour over your suggestions to rectify my frustrating situation in this quest. I am an older person and there is NO ONE in my peer group who can ever relate to what I do on the computer. This is the very 1st forum that was easy to access without jumping through a lot of hoops. and your help has been immeasurable! I may respond to this thread as I install the software and try. Amy

Hi Amy
If you do aquire the software the you will be a registered user which means that you can ask for help advice etc in the site designer section lower down from this section, that way you will get faster and more relevant responses.

Also if you do squire the software and post something it is helpful if you quote the site designer version and build number.

PS my name is just Wayan no need for the Jaya :D

PPS bet you aren't as ancient as me,
I'm my head 6'3 built like Sylvester Stallone and 21 years old. Reality 5.6 skinny as a rake and as old as my tongue a little bit older than my last tooth.:D

Wayan: I have installed Site Designer and am trying to open one of my real small (somewhat defunct) websites. It shows no files to open when I go to that folder. The website was created in Front Page or Microsoft Expressions. Why are no file showing in the website folder that I want to work on? Amy

Hi Amy, it's about midnight where Wayan lives, so he might be asleep.

Site Designer (SD for short) cannot open files made with other applications unrelated to Coffeecup. You need to start from scratch. It should not be hard to do since you have all your images, texts and everything else.
But, since I see that you are still a 'Guest', you must be in the trial period. I would advise you to use that time getting to know SD.
There is a beginner's tutorial here: https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles … -designer/

Some people like to start a new site using one of our many templates. You can find them here: https://themes.coffeecup.com/
And there is also a video tutorial on how to change text and images in the templates, I just have to search for it to be able to give you a link.

When you have learnt how to do things in SD, then is the time to start working on your site.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Hi Amy
Wayan is awake now and ready for another new day.

Where in the world are you?

I usually start my day around 3:00am, but as my family are still fast asleep, it is normally quiet working, I can later today make a video tutorial for helping you through the first steps introducing the software etc, but not for a few more hours.

I am also on "Discord" which is a nice app for showing you live so to speak, but that needs a time suitable for us to connect, hence wondering where you are,in the world.
