in VSD not sure about HTML editor ,in preview all our content displays \

when uploaded that should all automatically change to /

if any are not changing automatically change those ones ONLY

I don't know the technical terms but i guess you have inadvertently created \ in your images some how.

If your not using VSD get a coder to confirm as i don't do any code ;)

I'm really puzzled now as everything shows up all right on the split screen preview.

Helen,

It will show up correctly in the Preview... Because your computer address for the images is C:\Users\SirAGE\Pictures\testpic.jpg

But if you upload that it can not see the images, because the web looks for the images in /Users/SirAGE/Pictures/testpic.jpg

Does this mean I have to alter every \ to / not just the images?

It seems to mean that you have to set the correct path to your images, maybe also to other resources. As it is now, they seem to point to your, or SirAge's C drive. And of course upload the resources. E.g. if you have your images in a folder called 'images', they have to be uploaded to that folder. When inserting images, midi files etc in the Free Editor, you click an icon and navigate to the resource in question, and the /s will be set there automatically for you.

Just wondering if I've got the \ and / sorted.
Thanks

Hiya Helen,

The buttons for the menu are showing up on the Home page for me now. Only the home page is working right, but I'm assuming you're working on that one first to be sure it's right. Logo at the top is now showing also on the home page. I think you got it :)

P.S. In the future, I might suggest using all small letters for your file and folder names so your users can navigate to your pages manually more easily if they were so inclined to type them. Most servers treat caps and lower case as totally different files so someone typing Images would be going to a different page than someone typing images. Most people type in lower case and wouldn't always know where you have applied a capital letter so it's always best to use lower case. Just an FYI for future reference.

Looking nice now though :)

Thank you! I'll keep at it.

As a former teacher I'm a bit uptight about being 'correct' as far as punctuation etc is concerned! I must learn to be more modern in outlook! ;)

Many thanks - what a great community this is.

I have checked your pages in Firefox, and no image to be seen. When checking the code, it says that the images are located in 'Images\filename.jpg'.

You are hosting this on CC's S-drive, obviously, and the S-drive doesn't like backslashes, nor does it think I and i are the same.

Looks like you have created your pages in Word and probably saved as html. Apparently Word will not handle the \ correctly when saved as html (changing it to /). Usually we advise against using Word for anything internet related. And I would also follow Jo Ann's advice above, only using lowercase for file and folder names.

Besides, Word uses a character set which will not show 'non-English' letters correctly (e.g. the é in née). Instead you get some strange question marks.

What you obviously need to do is going through all the pages AFTER they have been saved as html, and change all the backslashes manually. Also manually change the character set to utf-8.

Unless of course, you want to do it the smart way, which is using a proper web editor... ;)

Have to correct one thing I said above: That one page that you gave the URL to is indeed showing the logo image, but when navigating through the other pages, also the 'Harp' page in your menu, it is like I said in my previous post, no images.

Thanks for the advice Inger. It was created eight years ago using Frontpage Express. My server has been taken over so many times that the site eventually disappeared. I have been busy writing up all my Llanover research to produce a book and now it is at the printers' I am returning to the problem of the website.

I am manually altering the \ to / and finding it strangely relaxing, much to my amazement. I am doing it a few pages at a time!

I really can't thank everyone enough for their interest and their help.

Helen,

I know you may hate me for saying this... But in FireFox your Find box at the bottom of the page (Powered by Free Find) Is not centered... I believe if you add the "" to the center it should fix the problem...

<p align="center" style='text-align:center'><span style='color:#004080'>Search
this site for <!--webbot bot="HTMLMarkup" startspan --><FORM ACTION="http://search.freefind.com/find.html" METHOD="GET" accept-charset="utf-8" target="_self">
