Hi, I am just starting with site designer and am wonder which template to start with?
I am wanting to use a responsive carousel for art gallery images and be able to add in my own breakpoints.
Which do I select from: Bootstrap 3, Bootstrap 4, Foundation, Materialise, Frameworkless?
A nudge in the right start direction would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

Hi
Welcome to CoffeeCup
This is just my opinion others may have different ideas
Frameworkkess is good especially with regard to being able to start at desktop widths first, however I do feel that it is more suited to people with a little bit more experience ank some knowledge of code(especially CSS and perhaps JavaScript) because some things that a lot people need things to do and operate on a page sometimes do require a bit of cf custom coding adding. Having said that there are users who are more than willing and capable of helping others who want use frameworkkess. And regarding some specialized components Inget has a website with a large selection of readymade ones for all components
Personally I prefer the Foundation one, it ihas a lot of different components available within it straight out of the box so to speak, and there are lots of other uses on this forum that use it and are also willing to help get you going.
Cc help articles and video tutorials are comprehensive and good to get one started in knowing what site designer can do and how to do it,, I can do more personalized step by step video tutorials also.
Materialized framework is a bit dated nowadays and probably needs updating to drag it into the new way of doing things, Bootstrap. Is Bootstrap possible the most popular framework for all developers using WYSIWYG it is close in my opinion to foundation framework for users on this forum so again in my opinion my choice would be between Foundation and Bootstrap I prefer Foundation. Others may differ
I can't remember the URL for Inger's mockup pages with the components but I will get it and post it bere shortly, or someone else will perhaps even Inger herself.

One more thing would be useful for us to know is your location not that it matters but sometimes time differences can cause delays to responses, I for example an based in Indonesia and it is 1:30 am here (actually my normal start to a working day)not a big issue but useful for others to be aware of

CoffeCup has some additional templates for all frameworks (some free, others premium at a good price, a little more polished )

Thanks, Wayan, for recommending my component pages.

I'll only add that if Seasidefay wants to use Bootstrap, he/she should go for Bootstrap 4, which is an upgrade from version 3.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Version 3 or 4 is just same as another brick in the wall as far as I am concerned, :D:D:D:D:D:D but yrs sort of beats me version 3 is still around,

You know me, Foundation is the one for me, but free choice, wouldn't want influence anyone on their choice.,

Enjoy your summer over there, our dry season is just about starting, it's going to get hot !!!

I agree all the matters mentioned above, and hope that the following notes will also help.

1. One has to make a choice regarding frameworks only for particular project files (.rsd). One project file might benefit from a particular framework, and another project file might benefit from a different one.

2. The Bootstrap, Foundation, and Materialize frameworks are mobile-first and have pre-set breakpoints which can be added to, but which cannot be removed in Site Designer.

3. Since the above frameworks are mobile-first, when I use Frameworkless I choose mobile-first for that as well. My reason is that it's less confusing if one sticks to the same direction of travel for each of the choices.

4. I would recommend that one keeps to simple pages while one is familiarising oneself with Site Designer.

5. For simple pages that don't need the clever extras of the frameworks mentioned in item 2 above, Frameworkless is the easiest. It is free from the multiple pre-set breakpoints, so that breakpoints are less confusing: one is dealing with only the breakpoints (if any) that one chooses to make. In some simple pages a judicious use of vertical width (vw) etc. units can allow one to make responsive pages with no breakpoints at all.

5. I avoid Materialize because it operates in a manner so different from the others.

6. In 'Toggle Breakpoints', I avoid the use of 'Disable All Breakpoints' for two reasons.
(a) It shows how the page looks at whatever breakpoint the slider happens to be, but any changes one makes relate only the position below the lowest breakpoint in mobile-first (or above the highest breakpoint in desktop-down).
(b) One gets the same view just as quickly by clicking the Preview button but without the danger mentioned at (a) above.
