Direct FTP question: Index of /...

Hello,
I have just created a site in VSD and uploaded the files in Direct FTP. I dragged and dropped my site folder from the local pane on the left into the "public_html" folder in the remote pane on the right in Direct FTP.

There are now three folders in "public_html":
TOTAL 3_website
Chris
website

(Not completely sure that this is the way to do it...?)

Everything uploaded fine but when I go to my page in any browser I land on a page titled "Index of /".
It reads this way:

Index of /

TOTAL 3_website/
chris/
website/
Apache Server at totalscreenprinting.com Port 80

I can click on the "TOTAL 3_website/" and it gets me to my page.
The other two give me "FORBIDDEN" with links back to the "Index of /" parent directory.

I am sorry if this is a dumb question but I am totally new at this!
Here's a link so that you can see what I mean.

I have also attached screen shots of Direct FTP and the website landing page.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hiya Chris,

VSD does not work like a typical HTML Editor so the files you uploaded are not actually website files but the compressed type files that VSD creates and they need to be extracted in a sense.

Use the built in feature in VSD for publishing your website. That is by far the most practical way to upload a VSD site as it does all the extraction of all the pages and files, puts them all in the right places, makes sure nothing is missed, and even backs up your .vnu file for you to your online server for safe keeping.

These are all things that are open to possible mistakes if doing it by hand yourself. Give it a try and you'll see what I mean. It may seem a bit slower than typical FTP but it's very thorough and has a nice setup for checking to see what's changed and what's not and what needs to be updated and what doesn't when it's uploading.

Thanks Jo Ann,
I just went through and published in in VSD but it still gives me that landing page...
Is there a way to erase how I uploaded it in Direct FTP and then publish it from VSD?
Or should publishing it in VSD overwrite the previous one I did in Direct FTP but just take a while to "kick in"?
Thanks

I would suggest you go into the FTP and delete all of the files you uploaded from both the FTP and VSD and start over with it. Most likely there's some clashing going on.

I went in to Direct FTP and selected everything in my server's profile and hit delete.

It dumped everything except for three folders:
mail
public_ftp
public_html

Giving me this message:
[550] Can't remove directory: Directory not empty

I tried to delete the Server profile, and uninstall the program but neither worked...
Ahhhh!

Sorry to be a nag but any more suggs?
Thanks

You deleted the root folder. You need to delete the what is inside the Public HTML Folder. Pertaining to the files you are wanting to delete.

You can normally not delete a folder when it has content in it. You have to first delete the children within the folder and then delete the folder.

Would that mean deleting my User folder (Chris) along with everything in it? My Desktop, Documents, Pictures, etc.... that seems a little harsh just to be able to delete a folder within a program... can someone lay this out in laymen's terms for a total newbie such as myself because I am at a loss
