Yes, installed and run as administrator. No errors during the install, only when program launched.
Looks like I'll have to go back to v9.6 :(

Lifetime upgrades on the paid version is brilliant although not too sure if I should go ahead with that option as I may encounter the same problem?...

Thanks for your help,

Does the trial version do the same thing for you Paul?

Also, what anti-virus and firewall applications do you have running? Have you checked your DEP and UAC settings to make sure the Editor is not getting blocked there yet?

Firstly, yes it's the free HTML editor. Sorry I didn't mention this originally but when I started this support ticket I selected the product (free HTML editor) from a drop down list so I didn't think it needed to be mentioned again.

A point of clarification: when I launch the program, I get the error message which I can clear by clicking OK. The program is then open and looks normal but almost any interaction causes the error message to reappear and so the program is effectively unusable. But it does, as I say, open, and is not being blocked by the UAC as far as that goes. There may be other UAC issues I guess but I know little about that side of things.

Scott, I'm not sure what DEP is...

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus and the standard Windows firewall (no laughter please! ;) )

I'd forgotten about the trial version of the full program. I'll give that a go. At the moment have gone back to version 9.6 of free while I complete current project.

Just had one odd thought, not may area of expertise ( i have none)

Could more than one version of html editor installed on same machine cause a conflict ?

I know 2 versions of VSD did

(ie) have you un installed one before installing the newer one ????

Yes, always uninstalled prior to new install. Although didn't go through and manually delete leftover files/folders.

I have a vague memory that you have to have a fairly late copy of Internet explorer and although that gets installed with Windows you could try installing a fresh copy it could be missing some files.

Windows (and Internet Explorer) are/were fully patched and updated.

Update:
I uninstalled the free editor v9.6 and installed the trial version of the full program and - no problems. No access violation. Then I uninstalled the trial version and installed the free program v9.7 and.....
No problems! No error message. Go figure...

In any case I've gone ahead and bought the full version which I just installed and all seems well.

Although, I really, really, really miss the preview tab. :(

Thanks to all for your help.
Paul.

I'll assume you're talking about the Visual tab Paul? Preview window is still there, it's just a separate window now that you can put anywhere you like. Perfect setup for those of us with dual monitors :) You still have the split screen too, and you'll notice a lot more features came with those new setups and the removal of the Visual tab. Definitely worth it for coders without a doubt! :)

You didn't already have a license for the paid version did you? If you did you should contact CC about it as you probably shouldn't have purchased it again as you don't have to, updates are free for life. If you didn't already have a license well then...
