I'd rather see an update every couple of months (makes me think they're working :D) than every couple of years! :cool:

My only issue with the 2.0 rollout is that there are 1.1 bug fixes that I'll now have to pay 20 bucks for.

Paying an upgrade price for added major functionality? I get that. Though, I would have preferred to have seen a minor release (version 1.1x) with the bug fixes first:

I agree with Jerry....One of the reasons I personally have been a loyal fan, supporter and vocal billboard for CoffeeCup is there used to be free lifetime updates/upgrades to previously purchased software. Understand, times are hard and to continue to provide awesome software, you need funds...but to have a version 2.0 so close to releasing 1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 (whatever it is) is rather frustrating. ESPECIALLY since I own the first version and now if I want 2.0, I will need to shell out 80 bucks!!!! WOW...you would think for those of us that have been around for 10 plus years we could at least have the option for a real deal steal...and 40 is still too much for me. Super disappointed. (and I still love coffeecup).:|

@Scott, your responses are concerning me as well. You seem incredulous to the fact people would be a irritated that this is happening and just fall in lock step. The truth is, although this has always been a very comfortable forum and company to interact with, I am, and these are, your customers. Every one of us is saying we love your products and have consistently said we love what CoffeeCup does as a company. However, this is a complete 180 from everything you guys have been.

This isn't about charging $19 for a great update. It is about charging $19 for what you are calling a completely new version (hence 2.0 vs 1.2) about 90 days from the original version (1.0). It is also about telling us that we would have to pay $79 if we don't jump on the "UPDATE." At that point, it isn't a nominal fee for an upgrade, it is a sale for a new product.

Version 1.1 was a free update for all v1.0 customers. You did not have to pay for that and if you already own Website Insight the upgrade price is only $19, not $80. Check the email we just sent you and you will find a unique link that allows you to get a special upgrade price. You were one of the lucky ones with your Insight purchase. You snaked that up for only $21.75. ;)

Ok....I would pay 20...for version 2.0....where is that discount option? When I add to cart it says 79...I have purchased it when it first came out...with funds being tight for me...even 40 is out of my budget.... Thanks Scott!

If you don’t feel new functionality is worth the upgrade you can always stay with your current version.

Also, do not forget that you also received version 1.1 for free in that time frame and quite a bit was added to it.

OK, Scott. I get it and I can never blame a company for changing their upgrade policy. I hope you will have much success, and I also believe you will because you have some great products.

Yes you are also so correct, the upgrade price is very small compared to the regular price. I am sure many will purchase it, and enjoy the upgrade. It seems like a good one

I am also sorry that no one has said thank you for the updates you have offered free of charge. Let it be known, I am very appreciative, and like many others have kept purchasing your products to show that appreciation.

Here lies my question though. When did you officially stop offering lifetime upgrades on your software? Will you honor those who purchased your software when you had a lifetime upgrade policy?

If you Google: "lifetime upgrade coffeecup", you are going to see about 7,000 hits. I hope you will post your upgrade policy on your site, so your customers will not be blind sided by this issue again. When you have such a reputation for lifetime upgrades, many people will probably continue to purchase thinking they are going to receive this type of policy unless you change the way the internet community views you.

One more time, I hope you have the best success and continue to develop great software, so I am not trying to down grade your software or your website. Just because I cannot support it on my "Lifetime Upgrades" web site anymore due to change in the upgrade policy, I would be more than proud to place it on other websites I have.

Thank you Lonnie for all your support here. It really does mean a lot. I know to some that we make look like the big evil corporation only here to make a buck, but that is far from the truth. Those of you that really know me (or anyone at CoffeeCup) you know that we will always do anything and everything to make our customers happy and give them a great experience.

Our lifetime upgrade policy was actually changed quite some time ago and you will not find any references on our website that elude to any lifetime policy. On our website we do list our Upgrade Policy here at http://www.coffeecup.com/legal/eula#upgrade This is also in the EULA when you install Website Insight. Yeah that legal stuff we all click YES on. ;)

Even though we have had this policy in place, we have still been providing updates for free which I certainly can see why some may have the impression nothing has changed when the opposite is true. For years our customers have been telling us we are too generous on our free updates and that they would be willing to pay fees to make sure the program they love keeps getting plenty of attention. We held out for over 15 years though and finally decided after much discussion that it was just time to do so. Yes, it is a big change for some and we know not everyone will be happy with that, but we need to do what we think is the best for us and our customers. We still plan on having many, many free updates as we feel that is very important but once and a while there will need to be a small fee to help offset these costs.

It is very important to note that these small fees really helps us keep our Red Bull refrigerator stocked and not our private jet fully fueled. ;)
