Question about "objects" under the...

Newbie to the software..sorry if this is the wrong place to post this...

Ok I have my sight ready to be uploaded to my server & as I'm looking I see that there are 279 objects in the "file" directory, which probably half are duplicates, triplicates, etc. of one another...why? The site only has 16 pages.

I've created web sites using "Webeasy" software & have never had any issues. Thought I'd give Coffee Cup a try...but I don't want to upload any unnecessary files.

I guess the way I see it is when you add a page & you copy another page, it should use the same objects that were on the other page & not make new objects.

Thanks

It depends on what software you are using, but just because you see a duplicate file name does not mean that they are duplicate files. For instance if you use form builder and upload a form, you will have HTML, XML, and PHP files all with the same name, however they have different functions. They are not needless files, but necessary in order for the product to work properly. Now if you are just using the html editor and getting the same problem, then that is a different issue.

I created the site in VSD. In this case the objects are all .jpg's which is weird because it took some of my "text" & turned it into a .jpg

As an example..img-1, img-10, img-20, img-58 are all of the same thing & each image is on a different page. My thing is why didn't the different pages just use img-1? Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Hiya Robin,

From what I've read in previous posts, I believe each time you create an image on a page it uses it's own image and doesn't link to a single image for all pages like a typical coded page would. I will assume this is because it will sometimes change text into images, and that sizing it might actually be saving the image in that size etc. I'm not positive 100% on the actual "whys" of the reasoning, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works. If you have multiple images in the objects to be uploaded, you can safely upload it as is for I'm sure that each one is used in different locations when you build your site with VSD.

Hi Jo Ann

Thanks for the info. I guess it makes sense. You would think that it would just "link" if you will to the same image instead of creating it's own. It would save a lot of space on the server when you upload your site, especially if your site was huge.

Thanks Again

What Jo Ann says is correct. VSD creates visual images of the pages and uploads them that way. I am not sure if this is possible, but you may be able to use the html tool to link your pictures. Worth a try.
