I am going to be purchasing a laptop very soon to use just on my web development. I am currently using a pretty good one now, but its a gigantic gaming computer. I am interested in some advice on what people think is a great laptop on the market right now to purchase for a web developer that will be running some fairly large development programs, etc. (You all Know!)

Right now, the best I have heard is the Sony Vaio and thinkpad.

By the way - no macs, since its not compatible with CC.

Thanks in Advance,

Eric

Eric - I'm REALLY HAPPY with my newest in the stables. It's a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC DV6-1359wm. I don't see it listed at WallyWorld anymore, but given my experience, I'd recommend something similar (and actually cheaper) which is the dv6-2157wm. I'm not sure specifically what the differences are, but I'm sure we could find out fairly easy.

I have a Toshiba Satellite and it has worked out very well. I got one of their lower end ones at Best Buy for $289 and I love it. Just watch which version of Windows they put on there. The 64-bit version is a bear to deal with.

Mine came with 2 cd's, 32-bit and 64-bit. Formatted 10 minutes after I got in the door with 32-bit ;)

ONLY if you received both disks at the time of purchase. Otherwise he'd have to purchase it separately.

I will STILL stand behind my recommendation, haven't had ANY problems with Win7 64-bit, with ANY software combination's (well, I did have a few issues with Namoroka BETA a while back, but it was a BETA issue not 64-bit).

Just stay away from Acer their laptops are crap and they don't stand behind their products at all once the warranty is gone. If your part fries (motherboard is the most prominent part frying in their computers.... constantly.... consistently.... for over 5 years ..... and they still don't replace it) you're chit outta luck and they won't fix it for less than 450 bux. That's all I'm gonna say on the subject.

Lenovo (formerly part of IBM) and their Thinkpads are top notch. I would trust their quality control over a great many "big box" laptop makers. The only reason I didn't get their graphics workstation is Alienware made me a better deal for the same horsepower.

They are far from the cheapest route you can go, but you have to decide what you're willing to pay for.
