Confused

I wish I could sound as thrilled as many others. I've been using HTML editor for years and have found it extremely useful. So imagine my surprise when I ordered ALL the responsive software and can't figure out how to use any of it. The help pages are like getting on a merry-go-round. The content slider help pages assume that you already know how to use RLM, or take you to other pages for RSM. Other than the videos, which race through a process too fast to follow, there are no step-by-step tutorials. I taught myself html and css by buying books, learning the terminology, and following a step by step process so that I could familiar myself with how the software works. At the very least, I would be happy to purchase a PDF that would step me through the use of these programs.

Although the forums on CC are very helpful, the lack of tutorials that start with the basics has rendered my software purchases useless. In addition, the inability to import and existing template and work from there forces a person to start from scratch. Yes, you have templates/themes, and yes, you have so-called "help" pages on the website. But your claim that even a beginner can create a website in 30 minutes is ridiculous.

The "panes" have a few recognizable icons, but beyond that, how to actually DO something would certainly benefit from some step-by-step tutorials. I can't even use the index because I don't know enough to figure out what to look up!

Very disappointed. I already have a website up and running, but it is not responsive. What I needed was a way to take that website and make it responsive. Obviously I can't do that with CC.

Judy,

I understand how hard it can be to make the transition from HTML Editor to RLM and RSD. Please give me a call. I can definitely help. My information is below.

Did you know that Web Form Builder can be used for both simple and complicated forms and that it's not limited to the default fonts and buttons? Take a look at a form we developed for WindowTinting.com.

Trying to make sense of the RSD articles is frustrating because they're not in any particular order or even grouped by subject.
But the Resource Index is in there somewhere:
http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … lp-manual/
I would bookmark it so it can be easily found again.
It links has links to all the how-to stuff, from getting started on.

Once you get the design pane, breakpoints and grid stuff down – you'll be set to go on all the apps.

I'd give Brian a call and let him help you get going. ;)

I'm in the same boat... I have an existing web site made with VSD, purchased RSD pack, and thought it would be a breeze. My VSD brain is having a hard time connecting with the process for making an RSD web site. I tried using a template, thinking it would be easier to understand. Would starting from scratch be any easier?

It's probably because the guides are written by experts themselves. It's a classic example of where you need novices doing beginner guides because they're the ones whose minds gravitate towards the fundamentals.

The learning curve for the Coffee Cup programs really is short. Once you're over the first couple of hurdles you will excel with it. Certainly there's nothing better out there than RSD.

I struggled at the beginning to but found two factors that really helped me.

1. Learning to think responsively
2. Relating the new controls in RSD/RLM to what the old controls did.

Here's a link to a post I made in case it helps.

I do appreciate the feedback. Part of the problem is that I am at such a sub-basic level with RSD, I (1) don't even know what it means to "learn to think responsively," and (2) will have a difficult time finding the hours and hours it will take to read through the resources that are posted. I have watched "Video Guide - Site Creation in 5 Steps,1 responsive design. 5 steps. 8 helpful videos - oh yeah!" I get the feeling that there is an assumption of a knowledge level greater than what I possess, or it could be that I am just not that bright. Is there one resource of the many listed that would get someone jump-started that is in my situation?

^^^^ This is a permanent link at the top of the RSD forum. Lots of good info and tutorials and videos.

Responsive web design is a vast subject (about 23,200,000 results for a Google search), and its been changing and growing rapidly in the past few years. If you're coming into RSD with no prior knowledge of it (and little CSS experience), there will be a learning curve. RSD makes it as painless as possible, but it would be well worth your time to read through some responsive design articles and get familiar with a basic understanding of CSS. Then when you get into RSD, you'll be familiar with what the layout and design options are for. I would start with these, they won't take long to read and you'll get a good overview.
