Webcalendar doesn't show updated...

When I upload my changed .html and .xml files, the changes don't always show up in my browser. I hit refresh but that doesn't work. Usually if I close the browser down entirely and then re-open then the changes show. Or if I open a different browser entirely.

This is a bit of a problem since customers complain that wrong information is showing for them.

Personally I primarily am using Firefox 2.0, although seeing problem in IE7 too.

I just purchased WebCalendar a couple of weeks ago so pretty sure I have latest version.

It won't hurt to download it again and make sure to uninstal, re-boot, then instal the newest. (be sure to backup your files just in case) Even if the version number is the same, there might have been some fixes added to it. I think this issue is being worked on and you might get lucky with a new download.

Ok, I know this should be obvious, but how do I get an update to my WebCalendar? I see there is 4.1 but I don't know where to go to download the update.

Hello Alan,

It sounds as though it is the cache file on your browser for the site. All browsers love to store cache folders for flash so they will load quicker on the next visit. If someone is having trouble viewing an update, you might want to suggest that they either refresh the page, or clear out their cache folder for the browser they are using at the moment, then refresh the page.

Thank you,

Hi Orlando,

Yes, I suspected it was something like that. What I found odd is that the refresh page didn't seem to work. I'm wondering what the mechanism is for updating the xml, does that get read every time the page is refreshed?

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

I use Firefox, and when I updated a calendar, I even cleared the cache without getting the new entries to show up.

I closed the browser, and then opened it up to the calendar, and everything was there. Maybe I did something else wrong, but right now, I suspect that the xml is not cleared when you clear cache or reload the page.

When I get home tonight, I will play with my calendar and see just what is needed to get my calendar to update.

Hi Bill,

Yes, you are describing exactly the same thing I have experienced. Let me know what you find out!

Thanks,

Alan,

Previously, I was not be methodical about getting the updates to show. Today, I viewed the calendar in Firefox, and IE7. Then, I uploaded the change to the calendar, and reloaded Firefox. The calendar did not show the updated data. Next, I cleared my Firefox cache, and then reloaded the page. The new data is now showing.

Next, I tested IE7 which had already viewed the calendar. Reloading did not show the new data. Working my way through the new IE7 icons until I found the temporary files, and cleared that. Then a reload showed the updated calendar.

Based on these two browsers, I now believe that the cache/temporary files need to be cleared before the new data will be available. I do not know if both browsers clear cache/temporary files when shutdown/started, but that testing will need to be done another time.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
