We are thinking of taking the family to Charleston, SC this summer. Any one know of a great hotel to stay at? We are hoping to have something on the ocean so the kids have plenty to do. ;)

Any and all recommendations welcome. ;)

Don't know about Charleston but there are some lovely hotels in Sydney and there is a choice of beaches. Manly, Bondi, Although I guess it would be better to make it a Winter holiday our seasons are reversed.
Wherever you go Have a great time. But you know what they say about Australia.
Beautiful one day Perfect the next ;)

Hey Scott!

I actually work in Charleston. The downtown/historic area does not have a beach. There is an area/park called the Battery (where the first shots of the Civil War occured). Your options are Isle of Palms in Mt. Pleasant (10 - 15 minutes away) or Folly Beach (30 minutes or so away). Folly has limited "things to do", but there is lots in Mt Pleasant/Isle of Palms.

Also, Mt Pleasant puts you about a 2 hour easy drive to the Myrtle Beach area.

Not knocking Charleston, but I would recommend looking at Myrtle Beach (a lot of bang for the $) with a day/night trip to Charleston.

Thanks Harold! I went to Myrtle Beach 20 years ago and I really enjoyed it. Sounds like a better option. Just need to connivence my 2 oldest ones as they are major Civil War buffs and they wanted to be in that city. ;)

Spent all my summers in MB when I was a young man. Always much to do for families. Charleston is more for the historic/cultural value. A few years ago I was there, and enjoyed all the battlefields and tours. :)

Scott,

I am new to the forum and just seeing your post. We vacation in Charleston every summer. If you are still looking for somewhere to stay try the following:

Sea Cabins (ocean front $$$) http://www.seacabins.com/rental/complex.html?ID=3

There are other hotels near the Isle of Palms Connector or in Mt. Pleasant that are within 10-20 minutes from the beach.
