Not quite no strings:
* Offers valid for a limited time only. “12 Months Free” offers valid with a 24 month minimum contract term only. "3 Months Free" and "3 Months 50%" offer valid with a 12 month minimum contract term only. Setup fee and other terms and conditions may apply.

But still a great deal :)

Also for your information, there are some here on the forums who offer great hosting, there just smaller.

! Bigger is not always better !
I have a small host(operated by 1 person) for my Hybrid VPS server and it fly's! The database is very fast and http requests are lightning fast.
My server tech is a quick message away and he 'built' my server too. He literally picked out the parts, built it, tested it, and wired it into the server room rack.

Thats pretty hardcore dave. I imagine some guy in like a dungeon surrounded by wires everywhere.

lol, a dungeon.. I bet Steve would laugh at that one.. It's more like a late model operating room..
My VPS server is in the University of North Carolina's server room.

Agreed. I'm going to be one of those, but just wanted to throw that in.

Whooaa! They changed the terms since the last time this promotion was offered. Thank you for pointing that out Jo Ann. I will add that to my post elsewhere. :)

hardcore, well maybe, but the server box is shared by 10 people. I am not sure how many domains are running on it right now, but none of the sites are high volume consistently..
Now, if the whole box was just for me.. :) ,then I would agree.
The wires part,, you know they got lots of wire and optics..

For most web site hosting you just need no set up fee, a monthly fee less than 10 bucks, sub-domains are nice, ftp accounts, htaccess is a must, server stats, error log, php.ini is good to have access, and any control panel will work fine.

besides, it's real easy to move hosting if need be in the future. as long as your domain is in a place where you have control over it.. to set the name servers..

Hey Dave,

Speaking of moving (or changing) hosts, while it's not something people usually plan for (or expect they'll have to do), I would think that one of the most difficult aspects of this process is moving your email accounts. Is that right? Can this be done easily, if at all?

Jo Ann,

Thanks for the link to that thread on some of the problems people have had with BlueHost. I'll definitely take that into consideration before I decide who to use. Just reading that comment by BlueHost's tech about CC makes me leery of them, although his comment may not reflect the attitude of the company as a whole. Still, it makes one wonder . . .
