One Small Complaint - Post ID 232687

I am going to make this one post and do not expect favorable response from Coffee Cup.

While I know it has been posted in other parts of the forum and discussed, those threads appear to be closed to comment. So I have been letting the changing in upgrade policy stew inside me and it is final time for me to give my two cents.

When I bought over 95% of my software from Coffee Cup the policy was software updates for life. I understand Coffee Cup has the right to change that policy, in fact I support that right 100 percent. What I do not support and all the People Courts episodes I have watch tell me is that Coffee Cup cannot unilaterally change the contract without my agreement.

Have I looked back in the original purchase terms to see if Coffee Cup could change terms unilaterally?

Nope.

My problem is that it is in one word, wrong. I purchased everything Coffee Cup had to offer with the understanding that I would have updates for life.

I'm done with my complaint now. Please Scott, tell me how I am wrong in being morally outraged in the change.

We realize that this change was not going to be easy for both sides. The alternative would have been just to discontinue these programs and replace it with a new program and charge full price. That I do not think would have been a fair solution. By charging only a minimal fee (and these fees are very reasonable) instead of a full purchase price we felt that was a fair compromise.

Thank you for your support. ;)

I have same disappointment as jonathan. I bought flash form builder and it stopped at version 8 and no more developed as flash no more practical for web development and you guys come up with new web form builder and you guys offerd for short period of time upgrade for small amount of $$ but unlucky me for whatever reason I missed it.

My point is for your Customers the upgrade offer should stands forever till we shift to new product as those days we had life time upgrade policy.

Thank you.

A sale is a sale, it only lasts until it is over. :P

If I buy a car today, and then next week go back and upgrade, I am charged full price, not an upgrade price. When speaking about CC Software, it is reasonably priced to begin with. We just offered one update for $1.

Creating the software that you use and love takes money, time, research, development, red bull and tears. We understand it is a change for most of our customers but it was a needed change that I believe was long overdo. For 15 years CC provided updates to their software for free. Now, we are just asking you pay a nominal fee to get the latest and greatest. :) It is not much, but every little bit helps.

That is a good example Mansour! We actually didn't have to even offer an upgrade because it was a completely different program. However we still did (at a pretty steep price I may add). Also, it was not an "upgrade". Flash Menu Builder and Responsive Menu Builder are two vastly different programs. It was a discount to obtain a whole new program.

We also offer so many sale opportunities that it makes your point irrelevant. Even this weekend we are running a coupon code for 30% off. We offer many, many ways to obtain upgrades. You just have to take advantage of them when they are offered.

I'm actually one of the satisfied customers.

I know that it takes time, money, research teams, dev teams to create a program. The fee's that are being charged are to keep the team going.. they need bread and water so we can see brand new software upgrades, refreshing, and it's to keep everything running smooth.

Remember guys, they are running a business.

When I started it was free upgrades for life (for you and **the life of the software**), and the only other choice would be trying to figure out how to run software from '04 on a Windows 8 box (it ain't happenin').

Coffeecup from my worldview, has always been about giving the maximum value to the customer, and if there was anyway they could have got around not having to charge for a new and better version, I think they sure would have, but they have to pay programmers and technicians too. The new versions of programs in almost all cases, are much improved over the old, and also keeps up the software with the current operating systems.

I know it seems wrong with keeping the same title in many cases, but they could add "plus" each time. "Have you purchased VSD Plus Plus yet..?"
