Why does Site Designer have to have...

I'm a little confused on why Site Designer shuts down after 3 days if it can't check for a subscription.
I don't have a subscription to s-drive or email service, I manually publish to my server, so why does subscription status matter? I get that I wouldn't be able to publish to s-drive if my subscription lapsed but if the software is a perpetual license that shouldn't limit my ability to create. As a matter of fact, I wish I could turn off the publish function since I occasionally hit that rather than than the export. Better yet, be able to setup the ftp to publish to my server rather than s-drive.

Hi there and Long live the perpetual software license ........
This is the knowledgebase article about our new entitlements policy.

Right now, when you purchase our Site Designer software, you are purchasing a peperpetual license to use the current version and build number of our increasingly popular Site Designer Software. We call this a - buy once, use forever license. This means that all the work you create with the software can be used and modified FOREVER with the current Version and build number.

It seems logical to me to assume that it's primarily an anti-piracy measure, given that CoffeeCup don't use registration codes etc. It also checks whether the software qualifies for updates.

I suggested some time ago that the term 'subscription' was unfortunate, when it seems to be better described as 'update insurance'.

That is the exact reason why the 'subscription' is being checked.

My question is which version do we get to keep if we decide to unsubscribe for updates and how do they stop it checking for instance my subscription lasts until December this year, by then the build will be around 9,567,341 and a bit. If I decide to not continue do I get to keep that version or have to revert back to version 3113 which was the last one before subscriptions began

I'd say you are allowed to keep the last version that was launched within your year of subscription. As to checking, they might still be checking, and if you for some reason happen to have a newer version than the last one before your subscription ended, you might be in trouble. Only a guess, though! ;)

No they cannot continue checking if not subscribed that I believe would break all sorts of stuff to do with privacy.

As I said, I'm only guessing. Maybe my guess was wrong. I really don't know.

By the way don't misunderstand, I fully support the subscription thingy and understand the why and need for something, after all I had to relocate my office as a result of no internet access. the biggest issue for me is that it doesn't appear to have been thought through properly as to the "what happens if" this that or tother senarios appear, and doesn't seem to have been much information released before it kicked in

Actually 3113 is a build and the version is 4. So if they do a version 5 you would have to either buy that or just stay with 4...at least that's the way I read it.

Yes I know but sd v4 build 3113 was the last one that was released before introducing the subscription checking thing
so if one cancelles does that mean we have to revert back to the version BEFORE subscription began, which is SDV4 build 3113
