Text editor and viewing paragraph...

When I double-click text on a paragraph and want to apply a different class to a specific portion of text to make it bold for example, the inline editor pops up. It doesn't allow me to select a class that I previously created. It feels a little clunky. Would someone mind outlining how to create styles for portions of a paragraph and then apply them to selected text in other paragraphs as well?

Also, is it possible to view all styles created for the site? If I had created a style to make a word, or words, in a paragraph bold but now I want to change it so that it is bold and italic and maybe red in color, how would I go about that so that it makes changes to the whole site?

Hi John,

What version of the software are you using. I have never had a problem highlighting a section of text and adding a class to it. As long as your not trying to jump from a paragraph to a text link or anything else this should work for you. Then as you thought all you would have to do is change the style to that class and it would update across the entire site where you have defined that class.

Hi Steve,

I'm using Version 4. I'm following along on this tutorial: https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles … -designer/

Currently, I'm on step six (When to use the inline editor).

I'm also curious if it's possible to see a list of classe styles that I've made. I know I've accidentally made a few extras where I started to type something in the class name and then clicked somewhere else. Is it possible to see a list of my class styles, where I can clean up all of those?

Thank you,
John

It would have been nice to have a feature, where you could list the class names you have created and used. Since this feature has not been created (- yet - !) what I do is exporting the project, then I open the main.css in the HTML Editor.

Hi Inger,

Yea, it would definitely be nice to see the list.

Concerning the inline editor, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's a bug in the software. Following along on the tutorial. I can make the selected text bold and red, as in the video tutorial. But just for experiment's sake, I tried to apply the class to more text. After highlighting the text, I click on classes and then select "stand-out-message", but the text doesn't change to bold and red.

John

Hi John
Applying bold to part of a paragraph isn't a class.
The way to do it so any other text you want the same is
Highlight the text you want to change

Apply the inline tag for "strong" first then give the highlighted portion of the paragraph a class name (highlighted text red) then apply the colour.
Select to another part of the paragraph or part of a different paragraph
Apply the inline tag for strong then click in the text formatting classes section, that will open the classes you have already made chose the class (highlighted text red) boom there is your text bold and red.
Keeping the text highlighted apply italic to it and boom all instances of "highlighted text red" change to italic as well.

The important thing is that the inline tag is applied first then the styling with a class name

Thanks Wayan,

I think I get it now. It's better to change the font to a "bold" version, rather than use strong? Since "strong" won't be attached to the class?

Thank you for your help,
John

by the way, there is a bug in so much as this new fangled way of clicking from text editor to another paragraph or text whatever and it opens that other paragraph automatically in the text editor (which sometimes is a good thing,) it doesn't carry over the class styling,, (it only carries the "Strong In-Line thing, therefore, you have to click finish before moving onto the next one,
