Purchased and downloaded, but then learned that SD3 will not launch in Vista (64bit) :( Bummer.

Time to upgrade your OS, me thinks... ;) Vista is not supported any more, not even by Microsoft.

I agree with Inger here. It's a huge security risk using that version.

Understand that when I purchased my rig, it came fully loaded back then with 64bit OS; 6 Gig Ram; Geforce 960, 4G; and Core i7. It served then very well obviously, and still works fine with what I need it to do (PC gaming, editing, etc.) The rig runs fine, it's just Microsoft and other Software companies want us to keep paying out for reissued code. I don't mind paying more for upgrades so long as they actually are upgrades and not just reinventing the wheel to get more money, which also unnecessarily makes for a new learning-curve (e.g. MS Word). Our culture however is used to tech and software changing more rapidly than ever now. Consider how often Windows is reissued, requiring a new purchase with Microsoft (Win 7 8, and 10).

I'm not necessarily opposed to this, just that it seems a fact of life in the tech and software industry. I realize Vista is old, but it still worked until now. It would run SDV3 just fine too given that it is 64bit OS, yet MS decided that it shouldn't.

No worries however :-) I already purchased SDV3 for my Win10 laptop, and am excited to rediscover the potential of CC's designer software. Working with it right now actually. I am thankful that I can buy programs like this to help me more easily and efficiently do what I ordinarily could not do.

I partly agree with what you are saying about new versions coming out every other year, but you have to bear in mind, that the fraudsters and hackers out there are getting smarter and smarter, learning new tricks faster that you would like to think, and therefore the honest software producers have to be alert and keep up with that, filling the security 'holes' before they are exploited.
I have never tried upgrading Vista to Win 10, but version 7 and 8 I've done successfully. And I think Win 8 was the last version that had to be bought at a high price. Win 10 can be downloaded, and updates to that version seem to appear for downloads too. I haven't paid for any OS since win8.
