SD slows to a crawl after time... -...

I'm using the latest version of Site Designer Version 5.0, Build 3517 (still haven't seen a change log for it) and if I work with it more than an hour or so, it begins to get very slow to respond. I've also noticed that if I leave it open and come back to it after a couple of hours it is totally unresponsive and I have to do a force quit. Is anyone else having this sort of issues? I'm on a Mac M1 mini with 16Gb of memory and and plenty of storage. This is happening no matter which site I edit. The only way to get it working properly again is to quit the program and restart. No other program I own acts this way on this Mac. Any ideas?

I've not noticed any slowing down while working in SD5 build 3517 in Windows 11. I used to find what I thought was slowness/halting at times until I realised that Auto Backup (Action > Preferences) was doing its stuff but gave no message or signal to say it was happening. I therefore keep Auto Backup turned off and save manually at regular convenient intervals.

To test whether leaving a project file open and unused for two hours causes any problems in Windows I've just loaded an old 18MB project file. I intend to report what happens when I return to it in two or more hours time.

Hi John,

I have alerted the CC folks to your post. If you don't get a reply here, I'd recommend that you open a support ticket.

As a Windows user, I do experience that SD gets somewhat slower if I have been working, say more than 3 hours, but I have never had to do a force quit, even though I have sometimes had the program open for much longer while I've been doing other things, not on the PC. When I get back to the machine and wake it up, SD is 'alive' again instantly.

Yes
Here I get that on a pc a lot sometimes not even when it's been open too long, I have to do a forced shut down, and recently whilst working merrily away all of a sudden it just goes blank, white screen I can't close it the menu links still work but nothing happens
I have managed to capture the freezing on video a couple of times now and have sent them to the CC Team, it seems they haven't been able to sort it out as yet or discover the reason, but good to know it is also occuring on a MAC also.

I shall be awaiting with baited breath any positive solution or explanations from CC to be honest it got to the point at one stage I seriously considered stopping using SD

I can confirm that after more than 3 hours with the project open there is no problem. SD is still active, and not stuck or slow.

Hey, this sounds a bit like 'my dad is stronger than yours!'

Just to throw in some other variables: The space still available on the harddisk, the kind of harddisk (SDD or 'traditional'), the amount of RAM, the processor speed, how many other apps are running etc etc., if the internet is relevant, then the internet speed...

I'm pretty happy that at least someone else is having similar happenings, and on a MAC to boot, I have been told that MAC never crashes or has problems.

one of the reasons I got a new pc was the thinking it was something in the old one causing it

This matter seems to affect some well-specified computers whether Windows or Mac. Hard drive space and RAM don't seem to be issues for John or Wayan.

Internet speed and most other factors external to SD (other running programs etc.) would not seem to account for deterioration over time, rather than just a problem that's there as soon as one starts the program. It doesn't seem to be linked with the increasing project size of even intensity of use, in view of
(a) John's experience after the program was idle for two hours, and
(b) the fact that closing and restarting the program apparently resolves the matter - at least until a further lapse of time.

In the above circumstances I wonder whether it relates to some specific settings in the program, such as Auto Backup. If it were just some general problem with SD, I would expect all users to be affected more or less equally.

Those seriously affected perhaps could turn on logging in Action > Preferences and provide CoffeeCup with a copy of the log file covering the time the problem occurs.
