Question about "Web Safe Fonts" -...

This topic was likely handled in web design 101, but I missed that class.

From my basic understanding, the 'web safe fonts' listed by RSD should display correctly when a website is opened by whomever/wherever.
Does that not require the font to be available on that computer?
If so, why is half the fonts listed as 'web safe' not installed on my Win10 computer as standard issue?

As most of these fonts look just about the same, which font is displayed on my computer when I open one of your websites - the one you specified, or any one from the same font family that my computer select from what is available.

Can someone please enlighten me

My understanding is that websafe fonts are displayed only if someone's browser has the actual font installed if the font isn't installed the browser will display either the alternative font or the browsers default font.

As to why not all websafe fonts are not installed one assumes that one has to specify which fonts should or should not be installed. One also assumes therefore that it must be a setting somewhere in the browser one uses or even browsers if one uses more than the single browser

Web safe fonts are available on all OS's.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Thanks your info, which confirm my thoughts.

I run the latest version of Win 10 with all the updaes installed, but I do not have all the fonts as listed as "web Safe" installed on my computer.

Wonder what else windows are keeping from me ..

It also depends on how old the browser is as to if it has all websafe fonts available

Thanks Eric.
See, I did miss class WebDesign 101.

Question to CC. You currently default to the font Helvetica in RSD, but that font is not included in Windows. Can you maybe default to a font that is by default included in both Windows and OSX? Maybe Verdana?

You need put that in the suggestions thread they are more likely to see it there and consider the suggestion than in this thread

My Windows 10 doesn't include the Helvetica font, but the Registry shows that it automatically substitutes Arial for Helvetica:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

It seems therefore that this web page, and particularly the third from last paragraph, is still true.
