I want to link to a specific part of one page from another page within the same website i.e. not simply going to the top of the page but somewhere further down. I should be able to use a simple link on the first page to the other like:
site.co.uk/page#idname
having given the location I want it to go to the appropriate id but this is not working. I have tried endless combinations with and without .html in them. Any ideas/solutions please?

Just musing
I wonder whether perhaps
1. the absolute URL is not being shown in full, as in 'https://www.sitename.com/page.html#idname', or
2. the item with the id on the other page is close to the bottom of a short page: that could prevent the other page from scrolling up, and so give the impression that the link isn't working.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately none of which fix the problem 
. If I put the URL in full into a browser it goes where I want but trying to link back from a page and it does nothing despite having tried every possible permutation. If I try on a new blank project with just paragraphs on the index page and a text link on the sub-page it does work so my conclusion is that something on one of the pages is blocking it somehow, the problem is identifying the culprit! The only solution is to start again, add each element and test...ho-hum.

There was somewhere in these forums discussion where an animation program interfered with other parts of a site. I wish I could track it down, but have failed. Perhaps someone can remember - it had animated photos of a guest house or historic buiding perhaps on the continent, and I think Responsive Content Slider had been used a lot in the site.
