Here's my story ...

I have to laugh, as I was reading some of the posts many sounded like I could have written them with frightening tales of having large & ancient existing sites, having built them with FrontPage and the Expression Web [I started with a program called QuickSite], and being too old a dog to learn new tricks.

I bought Coffee Cup Site Designer 5 along with the Neutral Pack. I had all kinds of problems with it, both with getting it installed and doing anything with it. Quite frankly, I couldn't do anything. Zippo.

I couldn't get the program out of my head. I badly wanted to use it to attempt modernizing my dinosaur of a site.
I thought being retired and all that I would have plenty of time to spruce up my site, but I find that all that time is spent staring at my screen and getting frustrated. My existing site has been live since 1997. It's old & decrepit like me. I learned on the fly back then, but Coffee Cup is SO very different from what I am used to. No, I don't want a refund, I want to learn the darn program. So far, I have named my "project" and imported all my pictures from my existing site. That's it. I feel dumber than a rock. I realize I will have to do quite a bit of copy & pasting to get anything done as I know this software does not like HTML.

If I could just learn one or two things to get started. Like making a header & footer that will show up on every page. I tried copy & pasting the header from my existing site to a blank page and all I got was the code. My site has hundreds of pages and probably thousands of images, so I am probably better off leaving well enough alone, but when I look at some of the pages on my site they seem so crude compared to modern-day sites.

OK, I vented ... if anyone can assist, I thank you in advance. If not, I have a nice monitor that I can continue to stare at!

Hi Richard
Wayan is here
I can do some introductory video tutorials for you if you like, there are some video tutorials that coffee cup have also that may help. Open your site designer up on the tip right there is a button thingy that is called help dialogue.

Open it and there you will see a section called video tutorials.

I can do more personal relevant ones I call them
"watch listen and learn with wayan"
We could start with header and a menu using components if you would prefer that, I just need to know where you are in the world, and a basic idea of what you wanting for a design (how many pages would be good for a start)

If you already have a site no matter how old or decrepid you may think it is let me see it (send link to my email, which is in my profile page on this forum ) and I can get some idea about what you are wanting to renovate.

Anyway it is a great program once you get to know it and can help make some stellar websites, (single page, or multi page)

Coffeecup has a basic tutorial with text and videos on how to take your first steps with Site Designer (We call in SD for short). Here is the link: https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles … -designer/
I would say leave all those components behind for a while, and any ready-made templates too, until you know some basics, which you will pick up while working with this instruction. It uses the framework Foundation, but it works well in e.g. Bootstrap too.
And use this forum! We are a lot of users who have been here a while and we like to help. ;)

Also the next time you post something regarding anything to do with Site Designer, it would be better to post it in the section for Site Designer, look a bit further down this forum,
that way people can quickly see that your post is about Site Designer.

It may even be that one of the moderators will move this thread to that section anyway, and if they doo they will inform yo by email that it has been moved

I see that Wayan has beaten me to a start, hehe! I just wanted to add, that if you really want to learn how to work with SD, you should take the mentioned tutorial as just training. Don't start out thinking of your own website, practise a bit first.

Thanks for the advice Wayan & Inger. Much appreciated.

Wayan - I am in North Carolina in the United States. My site is located at: https://www.mohicanpress.com It is a very content-intensive site, but the design is mostly primitive. Especially the earlier pages. More or less, I think I would add most of the pages pretty much as they are. Some, though, are out-of-date or even defunct. Overall, there are probably at least 200 web pages. I guess what I want to do is make a much more modern and interactive packaging with the same "interior. There might be some places I would like to add/change existing photos to a carousel, for example, and maybe use a background video in some places. I'm not sure, actually. I have to see what can be accomplished by me. I like the "watch listen and learn with wayan" approach to get started, if you don't mind. A header and footer which replicates on all pages [with content similar to my existing site, at least as far as the content goes] and a blank "canvas" between the two where I can work without disturbing the header/footer.

I really appreciate the help provided.
