Hi.

I submitted my new site to Google and they sent me a message stating:- "Duplicate without user-selected canonical".

I have no idea what this means, Googe has however indexed the index page and says that page pass for working and viewing on mobiles.

Any ideas anyone.

Could it be that you have a test version somewhere, that Google has already found?

Duplicated content on a different page??
Have you tried asking Google? That usually means there is duplicated content somewhere on your site but Google can't identify which page, it most often happens with errors in site maps

No Inger, have not got a test page.
Was talking to a friend this morning who has a business building websites and offers customers optimizing websites for search engines and he said he has not heard of that messages before.
The oly thing I could think of before was when you first submitted your site to google it asked you what you wanted you site to be called eg:-

www.yoursite.co or just yoursite.co

I have seen that before.

I haven't seen a message like that from Google either, although I have had test sites for sites I'm building many times, the latest was about a month ago. Maybe Wayan is on to something then.

Think I may have found it.

The sitemap.xml I uploaded to the server had 'https' in the link instead of 'http'.

that is a strange, i created them from a sitemap creator.
We will wait and see.

You don't have to create the sitemap with any 3rd party software, both sitemaps and robots can be created in SD. Just check Actions/preferences if you have it enabled.
But if it already is enabled, you may have had two sitemaps on your server, and they may not have been exactly the same.

There is quite a lot about this subject at https://the7eagles.com/duplicate-withou … canonical/ . At the end of that page it mentions how, when the cause of the problem has been fixed, one can get Google to check the fix, but that it can take up to four weeks to get the matter fully cleared.
