Can anyone explain the differences?

Hi everyone
I'm new to designing with RSD and since i purchased it i get a lot of emails trying to sell me BB and FF.
Other than the ability to build for the smaller devices first, how do these apps differ from RSD and should we have each of these apps in our 'toolbox' - or are they all primarily for building websites, and if so, why would we purchase more than one of them?
On the other hand, am i missing some design advantages by not having each?

(PS - this is not a gripe about the amount of emails i get or about advertising, i enjoy getting CC emails about new products etc - i am just curious about the differences between these 'apparently similar' products.)

Hi again Tony

Not much difference really even with RSD you can start from mobile first. If you are more used to designing layouts from desktop down then RSD will fall into place rather quickly,,, starting from mobile up requires a completely different approach to thinking about the layout (once you get it though it's a doddle and you would be wondering why it wan't always like that)

At the moment FF & BB have more built in components (responsive menu's, dropdown menu's, modal windows etc) and you can create your own components and a library which means you only have to change one thing in the library (symbols) and it changes for all pages that have the symbols linked to,,,, I believe RSD V2 will have similar things when and if ever it is released.

I was told a few months back that it would be by the end of the year....

Guess I should have asked which year!

Good things take time. Remember CC Staff is very small and they put out such amazing apps.

In a December Facebook post they said RSD2 and then a BB upgrade. BB2 is out and still no sign of RSD2

I believe they are planning or at least hoping for a quarter one release.

Regarding the differences, all three programs are for designing responsive site. You don't need all three. Some people develop using Foundation as the framework, so they need Foundation Framer. Others prefer to develop with the bootstrap framework, so they need bootstrap builder. Both of these frameworks, foundation and bootstrap, start with the mobile site first and then expand to accommodate the desktop. RSD starts with the desktop and then accommodates mobile. For myself I prefer RSD most of the time, but I have particular projects that need to be built in bootstrap or framework. So having all three programs in my case allow me to choose the program the best fits the web site project.

Beyond the different frameworks use, the primary difference between the three programs right now is that bootstrap builder and foundation framer both have components and symbols. These allow you to create combinations of elements for the site that are reusable from page to page without having to re-create them. In the case of symbols, you can add a symbol (which is a collection of elements or perhaps a column) to multiple pages. When you update the symbol on one page, it updates that same symbol on all the pages where the symbol appears.

As mentioned earlier, components and symbols will be coming RSD in the next release. Hopefully that will be in quarter one, but even if it takes a little longer it will be worth it. I am very much looking forward to it.

Did you know that Web Form Builder can be used for both simple and complicated forms and that it's not limited to the default fonts and buttons? Take a look at a form we developed for WindowTinting.com.
