Wish list for the FUTURE pro version...

By now we've all had chance to play with the new designer software and are all eagerly awaiting the release of the pro version of Cart Creator to utilise the designer to its full potential. The pro version of cart creator is due for release before the end of the year and some of its potential features have already been hinted at. As these are spread out all over the forum, I decided to create a wish list for the pro version of cart creator, together with a rationale for those features.

Inventory control: Even though it doesn't affect me as a seller, as a buyer I'd be annoyed if I bought something online, paid my money and it was no longer available.

Sub categories: Scrolling way down the pages is good for nobody, it looks messy and unprofessional.

Price variants on options: Many sellers have price related variants. Many of those options cost extra money. Having those variants in a drop down list gives the customer a wider range of buying options and gives them a choice of products all within one listing.

Stock numbers: Again this doesn't affect me personally, but can see massive benefits for sellers selling a lot of very similar products. Easier for offline stocktaking too.

Better shipping options: At the moment the shipping options are far too restrictive and totally inadequate for serious use. A weight based shipping option with user definable weight tables for user definable destinations would benefit everyone that ships physical goods. No business can afford to lose out on shipping charges, or end up overcharging their customers.

Digital downloads: Not a market I am in myself, but I've seen many requests for this feature in the forums. Could be an extra revenue stream for other users as well though. For the cost of a domain name, why not have a second 'digital' shop?

Zoom on thumbnails: I like the simple layout of cart creator, but a mouse over zoom on the thumbnail images would present the products better, without diminishing the number of items on the screen. Those little javascript auto zooms really look elegant and would be a huge benefit to customers.

Most of the above features are already on the 'road map' for the pro version of the cart creator and I'm sure that other folks will add other ideas to this wish list also.

Like many others, I must have tried out over twenty different cart offerings before I discovered cart creator. Whilst it still has some shortfalls in some areas, I strongly believe that once features like the ones above are incorporated into the pro version, we'll have a class leading product to create shops to do what they are intended to do; namely to present our products in the best way possible, give the buyer a pleasant environment in which to browse and most importantly of all, an easy and secure way in which to rapidly pay for those goods. :)

Cart creator is a simpler solution to having a shop online. It is not overburdened with features that few people will seldom use and it certainly doesn't have the endless problems that using larger database solutions create. When you add to this wish list, keep in mind the ethos of 'a simple workable solution, that benefits the majority'.

That's about the definitive list you've come up with there, Will!

IF it was to happen first time out, Pro would be a killer app.... but it won't, so my vote goes for inventory control, shipping (because I have a customer with immediate needs) and digital downloads.

Personally, I'd sooner see CC hold back the release if it means more of your wishlist can be implemented with an extra month or so. That said with Designer Pro already out, I can perhaps see Creator Pro not being too far behind.

Don't forget in-site search and a shipping discount for buyers making multi-purchases. Also, give the buyer a choice of check-out now or to continue shopping. I tried putting a link to my home page in view cart and it's not click-able.
Thanks

The continue shopping button is a must, but that particular item needs to be on the basic version of cart creator too. :P

I too think that the Coffeecup team will be racing to get the pro verson out in time for Xmas. I think that is to enable Scott to dress up in the Santa suit, to hand out the Xmas bonus's to the programmers. :D

Seriously though, when you attach a 'pro' tag to a program, people will have high expectations of it. I too would like to see more features included on its release, rather than rushing to get a half finished product out the door.

As much as I am in need of the Pro version to really start moving on my business, I too would rather have a more fully featured program than to have to reupload my shop once every few days or so to add new features with updates. I'm sure we'll have enough of that just for fixing the bugs when I keep breaking the program as it is :P

Give us full features at a bargain price! That's all we ask! Is that so much?! LOL :P

Seriously though, truly would like it done well, with as many features as possible upon release rather than pushing a release just to appease our impatient selves :)

I agree with you point on very long category pages.

Also, Doug, your website is awesome! Did you do it with CC's cart and designer? If so pro designer?
