Hi, just preparing to make a shop for someone and would welcome thoughts on the best way to organise variations on a base product.

Shop is selling hair extensions and the base item would be a 10" extension.

The option for this product would be in terms of length, so there would be 12, 14, 16 inch options with additional costs.

Would it be best to create a single product item for all variations or create one item and then add an option called length with a separate line for each length, together with an additional cost?

Or is there a better way to organise?

An example of what I'm trying to do can be found here.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

If you are using SCCP your best approach IMO would be to set up the Type of hair extension then create optional field of the different sizes and adjust the cost to each size there.

In this example you see that I had no price difference to the different options but you can add dollar amount on the right.

Thanks Steve, I think that's what I will do.

One anomaly though is that if you apply a %age discount then it's only applied to the initial base amount. So if I had a 10" extension at $40 and a 12" extension at $50 (40+10) then a 10% discount only applies to the intial $40.

Thats an excellent question! I am not sure. Maybe one of the coffeecup guru's can answer. I would assume it would be 40% of the total price but I could be wrong.

I did get confirmation from one of the Gurus. The 40% will be the total price. If you want to apply the discount to each option you would have to manually do it for each selection.
