I have inherited the Webmaster job for a metal sculptor's Dream Weaver created website that is totally non-responsive and full of images in table rows and cells. I have been working on it one page at a time, mostly adding new content and slideshow images that open as larger overlays. The owner wishes to have it converted into a website that can be viewed on everything from a smartphone to a large desktop monitor.

Can existing table layouts with HTML 4.01 be in any way converted by RLM into HTML 5 equivalents? If not, is there another CoffeeCup program I would need to use first, to convert the HTML into modern standards and change the tables into similarly positioned Divs, which could then be repositioned as needed by the device's screen size and orientation?

There is no way to convert your existing site to RLM Robert. You would actually be creating it all over again within the program.

Responsive Layout Maker solves one of the biggest challenges in responsive design, having a flexible core which can adapt based on the viewer’s screen size. In a nutshell, Responsive Layout Maker creates a responsive prototype website (called a layout). You build the structure of your website in Responsive Layout Maker and then export to any code editor to add your final content.

While that may sound overwhelming at first, it is not too difficult. We have an article here that will show you how to build something in RLM and then take that into an Editor where you add your own content. Yes it does take a little bit of work but the end result is so worth it. ;)

Some of us who have been lucky to play with RLM for a bit, have found tricks and ways for a lot of things. I wanted to transform a non-responsive site into a responsive one, and what I did was creating the layout of the existing site in RLM and then changing it step by step to what it would be on a small screen. It is an advantage to have a plan ready for what you are aiming at, that makes it easier to achieve it. I don't have anything to show off yet, it's not finished and uploaded, but it's coming on.

It needs a bit of practice and fiddling, but eventually you get there.
Ha en riktig god dag!

I have post my work before but I will post it again here for Robert. My website used to be non-responsive and I used RLMP to rebuild my framework then I just copied my content over manually using a HTML editor.

RLM doesn't convert but it does help you transform your site to responsive. You will be able to use a lot of your current content but may have to make some tweaks to get the results you want. Lets face it the site wasn't responsive before so you know theres a little work ahead. The work is worth it. RLM makes keeping track of responsive elements easier then holding the hands of three kids while your walking.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I see that I have a lot of work ahead of me. I will need to convert all the table rows and cells into divs before anything else can be done. I can do that with the tools on-hand (HTML Editor).

Thanks for all the replies.

No. Use RLM... Recreate your website in RLM no need to restructure first, just start building!
