Want to create my own theme - Post ID...

I already have a css file and the corresponding html that I want to use for a project. Rather than have to cut and paste each time I was hoping to create my own theme. When I go to File - New From Theme it has an option for "My Themes" but I can't figure out how to load mine. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

"My Themes" I believe refers to the themes you have purchased. After purchasing them they are installed in the "my themes" section. What exactly are you trying to do?

Hi Eric,

First I've got to say your avatar is hilarious! Now that is out of my system...

When you look at the pre-loaded themes they already have the background, the layout, colors etc. Since none of them fit my needs I created my own css file to do it, and then the corresponding index page. Now I want to create the rest of the pages and wanted to know if there was another way than just copying the code for the index page and then having to rework all the content (or create a blank page and keep using it I guess). Also I could see using a similar layout for other sites in the future. Hopefully this clarifies my question.

FYI I have the paid version of the HTML editor.

I don't think the HTML Editor actually creates or stores a theme as a file. The themes I have purchased have individual html pages already structured as a theme. If you want to add additional pages, you have to do what you said, copy and paste an existing page to match the theme.

Oh, ok. Yes, all you need to do is put a link to your css file in the header of your new pages. On my support page I show you how to do this:

By inserting your css in the header of your new pages, you are applying your new styles across your whole template.

Hopefully, I understood you better.

Thanks to both Eric and The Joker for answering my question. I'm going to add that as a suggestion for future versions of CC. In the meantime I went to your site Eric - very helpful thank you!

Great. You can use it whenever you need it.

Just thinking as I write so probably talking nonsense...but ...here goes...

If you have a look at what files the present themes have (look in the themes folder) and make sure the one you make has all those components ...wouldn't it be possible to add the theme you make into that theme folder and use it like the others?
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. :)

Put an html file into a directory of it's own inside the theme folder, add a little CSS styling and some images, and presto - new theme.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
