Problems with Direct FTP and McAfee -...

Apart from my CoffeeCup S drive hosted site I also have a couple of other domains that are hosted on 123 Reg where I have websites built using Visual Site Designer. Today I decided to try to access these using Direct FTP. Although Direct FTP is listed as one of the trusted apps in McAfee, I was timed out every time I tried to access either of my sites. The only solution that allowed me to access my sites on 123 using Direct FTP was to disable my Firewall on McAfee. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? McAfee is provided as part of my package from my ISP and I believe that they are going to, soon, transfer to using Norton instead.

I am using McAfee on an older laptop and also DFTP. I use other servers, though. I have never had any problems connecting to my servers. You need of course, to check that the access details are correct, and if the protocol is the right one (usually FTP with port 21 or SFTP with port 22. You may have to ask the support of your web host if they use some other settings.

We spent a long time today talking to 123 Reg and that was the only solution they could offer - disable the firewall. They told us to check our connections using www.net2ftp.com and, since that worked with no problem, the only thing they could suggest was that it was the firewall on McAfee.

here is a quick suggestion
Temporarily disable McAfee test the FTP if it works, that confirms the culprit after that enable McAfee again
