...message I receive in Coffee Cup Direct FTP is numbered 530 and specifically mentions Login name & password as being probable issue

Having gone through this bit of fun with Go Daddy recently :P , I'll throw this out there in case it helps...
After several failed attempts to connect, I found out the user name I had was only for the account in general and there was another/different username for the FTP.

Lisa, Have you tried it with your firewall/security turned off?

I've done both and switched from mysite.com to 24.24.100.100

I just can't tell what's different. I used Direct FTP about a month before I updated and it worked. I don't know if it's GoDaddy or CoffeeCup.

I made a exception to the firewall but still the same exact fail message. I checked my user name as well. I change one thing and only one thing try to connect, fail, reset and try another suggestion... still not connecting.

It was on MY end.

As I finished setting up my firewall exception I noticed another exception that I must have set up when this all started last week. I deleted ALL exceptions and now it's working. I knew it had to be operator malfunction, but I just couldn't find my mistake.

Thank you all for your help and patience.

It is amazing how quickly we can dismiss our involvement in a problem. Sadly I have learnt that lesson many times, makes you double check yourself but that is a good thing. It is good to know ones limitations.
Congrats on your solution.

I am having trouble too, getting direct ftp to connect to godaddy. It keeps giving me access denied and the 530 error. I have been trying to find another username and password other than the ones I use to login to the godaddy main account but no luck as yet. It is a pain in the rear. lol :)

Katie, be sure you're not using your GODaddy account username for the FTP username.
For example; if I login to GD with "aBcd123"... that's not the username for the FTP. For FTP I have (example) "mywebsitename"...that's all, no .com or www.
Also check that there are no spaces in your username/servername, upper and lowercase letters are exact and that you have public_html and not public-html.

Nope that won't work for me either. Will the password be the same as the main one?
