Hi Tim,
I think you should restart Windows Vista. After that, do not try to install VSD. Instead, go straight to your Windows control panel and choose uninstall programs. Find CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer in the list and double click on it and follow the instructions to uninstall.
When that process completes, restart Vista once again and only then run the new VSD installer that you downloaded.
That should get you back up and running.

Finally had time to get back to this, sorry. Yes David restarting the computer did the trick. I was able to go to My Downloads and run the VSD installer program from there, where it uninstalled the previous version then installed the newest version. VSD opens and runs smoothly as always.

I am disturbed that your are no longer going to support Visual Site Designer being able to publish to Yahoo's Server, which now uses Yahoo's new FTPS protocol. My website, is too big to move, and using an S drive is not a solution -- only a shabby workaround.

I guess you have decided to ignore the Yahoo people who use their Hosting Service. Other Web design programs work with it, and I am going to have to switch to one of them soon.

I guess your selling point of Free VSD Updates, was a lie.

I really wish i understood what you are saying, VSD was designed to have an inbuilt FTP upload

It was not designed to work with FTPS, and i have not heard anything from CC suggesting it would or should.

Sdrive is CC own hosting service, and as a VSD user they have provided you FREE hosting , not a workaround but a true FREE hosting for anyone choosing to use it ( i do for one of my websites)

Have you contacted CC via your accounts support ticket, and asked if it will still work, and if so what you need to do to make it (not this user to user forum)

I for one will be interested to see you publish their reply

Then again, if it's just an FTP problem, um, couldn't you just export your VSD website and use another FTP program to upload it to Yahoo? Yea, it's an extra step and I really don't know why cc isn't making the change. They could be. But really, ditch the whole thing just because you have to use *direct ftp* or something. I wouldn't.

Can you be more specific on where you saw that they will not be supporting this? Since this is your very first and only post here it's not something you have ever asked about here before. Hopefully you've had the smarts to go and put in a support ticket to CC and ask them about it rather than just blasting them about it here without any information. Just a thought :P

That doesn't really make much sense Alan if you think about what you are stating here. Visual Site Designer has never had sFTP support in the program at anytime. You have owned the software since 2009, so you should know that feature has never been there. Yahoo also just made this change a few months ago and FORCED you to use this protocol for connecting to their servers. They never gave you the option to make the choice for yourself. I would be more upset with Yahoo then the software companies. It was not our fault they made that change.

As much as we would like to, we simply cannot design or add features to the software to make it work for one company like that. By not adding it does not imply we do not care either. What if another hosting company made a change forcing you to upload through a proxy server. Are we also to be held accountable because we do not support that as well? I am going to have to say no. ;)

You could also take your same logic with any type of feature and say that because we don't have that included, then we are not supporting our users and the selling point free upgrades is a lie. Where does it end? Visual Site Designer does exactly what it was designed to do.

Yes, sFTP is a great way for uploading and maybe someday we will consider it, but the priority for us on that is very low. You still have options though. When you save your website in Visual Site Designer, all your project files are located in the _website folder. Just use any FTP client and upload them to your server.

While you no longer have single-click uploading, you still have a way to get the data online to Yahoo. If you don't like that option, switch to another hosting provider that does not force sFTP or you can use S-Drive.

Thought I would point something out...

When VSD is updated you will get the update for FREE. Will it have the update that you want to see? Maybe, maybe not. I recommend posting your suggestion on the suggestions thread for VSD and hope for the best.

In conclusion I might add a tid-bit for you to think on brother.

Matthew Chapter 7 - Verses 1-2.
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

For those who don't realize it, VSD's publishing method, is basically a FTP uploader, but it is not able to use Yahoo's new explicit security protocol, and therefore it does not have an easy publishing method for it. To publish to Yahoo's server, now I have to perform a Website Preview, find the leftover files used from that preview, and then use Filezilla (which just recently incorporated the EXPLICIT security protocol). And hope that I found the correct files, and that I have FTPSed them to the correct files in Yahoo's Server.

CC's whining that they can't update VSD to comply with new server requirements shows a real problem with their commitment of support for their product. FTPS support is available with most other Web Design programs that I have checked out. I have created several other Websites, that I made the mistake of designing with VSD.

And, "just switch to another Server:" My Site is way too big to move -- and it grows bigger every week -- by fifty to sixty MBs.
