I need to add the ability for clients to upload large (sometimes very large) graphic files.
Conventional email, even when files are zipped is too cumbersome. I'd like to have a way for clients to upload via ftp to a secure subfolder on my domain. I'm with Go Daddy and according to what I have read it's entirely do-able, I just can't figure out how.
I'd like this to be as seamless as possible for my customers...any suggestions?
BTW, the new site is at www.stagecraftfilm.com
Thanks - Boyd

Boyd,

You need to set them up with an FTP account... If you have a C-Panel it should be fairly easy to do. Just look for FTP Accounts in your C-Panel and create your client an account, give them a max upload or just leave it at 0 to allow unlimited space.

SirAge, thanks and yes I can set up an anonymous folder than anybody can upload to but specifically how do they access it? Does each client that needs to send a file need to have an ftp program on their computer or is there an application that I could somehow embed on my website to make it as simple as drag 'n drop?

When you set up the FTP account, you can set a username and password... Then what I would do is send them to http://www.coffeecup.com/direct-ftp/ and have them download Direct FTP and upload the files that way...

You can setup a upload on your site, but that would take a little work on your end.

Some other FTP clients are FileZilla, Fetch (Mac), and gFTP (Linux).

The other suggestion I can give you is by using DropBox... https://www.dropbox.com/ I use it all the time... It is a great fast way to transfer files and you can setup folders for each client and it takes about 10 secs for most of the files I upload... And another 10 secs to be downloaded by your client.

Thanks again SirAge, You may be right, I've used Dropbox in the past and it might just be the simplest solution. All I'd have to do is write a brief how-to on my upload page and supply a download link for Dropbox installations..food for thought.

Boyd,
When you say upload do you want it emailed or just kept on the server?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Eric,

I think he was looking for something other than E-Mail, because his customers send large files and sometimes it does not go through on an E-Mail... So he needed another way.
