Wish List or Registry?

I'm trying to add a wish list to my site. Or maybe it's a registry? I'd like to make a list of wishes and when someone commits to something - it will mark it as 'received' or 'fulfilled'. I've created a website for a friend that is battling cancer and is in need of household supplies, groceries, minor repairs on her house, etc. Everyone asks "How can I help" and I want to direct them to the wish list page at www.team-susan.com . Any ideas or suggestions?

Your doing a great job for those with Cancer Diane. I'm not really sure what you mean though. Is it that someone says something on the guest page and it goes to an email address? I'm a little baffled, is there another website that you have seen that does something similar?

Hiya Diane,

If you're willing to put the time in without dealing with a major script just make it a text list and when someone has provided something go in and remove that item from the list manually. Takes a bit of time, but not really that much.

To do what you're wanting to do would take a good bit of scripting/programming and would put the control in the hands of the visitors rather than the person being helped. The reason I say this is that someone could have intentions of getting something or doing something and then not be able to and now it's checked off the list because they checked it off. Would be better if you were to do it on the receiving end so that it's truly received and not just intended to be. Just my opinion on that, but sometimes it's better to get a duplicate of something, than to not get a needed item at all.

If you're still adamant on wanting to have it be a real wish list type of setup, Google has a wide list of available possibilities if you google "script wish list" you'll get this result:
https://www.google.com/search?q=script+ … =firefox-a

Good luck with it and hope you get what you need for it. :)

Thank you both for your comments. I was hoping for a simple script to cut and paste. To clarify what I'm trying to do, for example: let's say I'd like ask for a american flag, a rake and dog dish. I don't want to get 12 flags and 6 rakes. If someone commits to buying a rake by pushing a button, then the rake is marked 'fulfilled' or removed from the list. I guess I can put the list out there and then update it. thanks again.

Hiya Diane,

There are most likely scripts out there for what you want to do. You can try a google search for "Wish list scripts" and you'll most likely come across some. I'm guessing many of them will need php or some kind of database system, but I'm not sure on that either. Otherwise updating it manually is pretty simple too if someone submits they are going to do something. Just setup a form with the items on it (which you can update pretty easily if more things need to be added or removed) and when you get the emails you can update the form accordingly.

Whatever works for you is what is best so good luck on it! :)

I would have two forms using the form builder. One to submit needed items and one to commit to providing an item. You use the needed form to build the list of items needed and this would should be protected so only the users you allow to create the list can access it. Then you can populate a dropdown on the commit form so users can choose the needed item. Then you set the commit form to check the the needed item in the database as provided so you can keep a running list of all the items donated and who donated them. As Joann stated there's probably a script out there that can already do this but I like the form builder and developing my own php scripts to do tasks.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.
