I am a Frontpage user so all the files I currently have are in that format. I was looking at several of your products and am still not sure what I want or need. Coffeecup Visual site designer looked like it would do what I need. I have several website already that are up and running and thought that instead of trying to use the files from my computer it would be easier to just download the site thru FTP but not having any success with that and I tried coffeecup HTML editor which downloaded 1 page and uploaded to the wrong place. I know some of my problems are just learning how to use the products but I don't do this every day so I am not very fast at it. I also thought by downloading my sites I would also see errors that need correcting as codes and things have changed over the years and some of my site stuff is several years old.
Please advise as to which way to continue. I liked frontpage because everything was right there and I could work on the whole site at one time from my computer. Don't need heavy graphics and overly fancy stuff just want to get my sites upgraded quick.

PS I tried downloading your new program but when I went to install it, computer came back and said it was not a win 32 file.

We offer two different applications that you can choose from which will allow you to create your site: HTML Editor and Visual Site Designer.

The main difference between HTML Editor and Visual Site Designer is access to the raw HTML. Visual Site Designer will generate all the necessary HTML for you and allow you to focus on the design of your page. You can insert text, images, links, etc. and drag them anywhere on the page. You can even create shapes such as rectangles and circles, or add effects like glow, bevel, and shadow. Because everything is stored in the .vnu file for Visual Site Designer, it cannot open preexisting HTML files to edit.

The HTML Editor, on the other hand, can open any HTML file and edit it with either the Code Editor or Visual Editor. The Visual Editor will also allow you to insert text, images, links, etc., but you cannot create shapes or effects within the program. Those would need to be done outside the software and inserted as images. Because the HTML Editor edits one file at a time, as opposed to the entire site, you have more control over things like filenames, directory structure, etc., and how these elements are uploaded to the server.

As to the Win32 problem, this issue is caused when the application does not download fully. When you attempt to install the software, Windows does not know what to do with the file, so it will display this error.

To correct the problem, delete the file you have downloaded and redownload the software. If you are running any download managers or anti-virus applications that could intercept the download, we suggest you disable them before attempting to download the software again.

If you encounter any further issues, let us know.

I just downloaded the trial version of Visual Site Designer. Certain functions seem to be inaccessible and I can't determine why.

For instance: if I insert an image and then I want to bottom-align it, I'm right-clicking on the image but the "align" command is greyed-out. And when I tried to put white text on my black background, I went to "fill properties" (the only place I could find that makes any reference to text colour at all) and the "text colour" radio button was greyed out.

So am I doing this wrong, is the program buggy, or are certain functions disabled in the trial version but functional in the real version?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi there,

The Visual Site Designer Trial is actually fully functional. There are no features that are disabled in the trial version versus the registered version.

Alignment
The aligning options are for multiple items. Like if you have 4 pictures and 3 text boxes and you want them to all be evenly aligned, you can select all of the items by holding down the mouse and dragging over the items. Then when you right click, you can align them. It's not for individual items because it's not aligning the items with the page, it's aligning the items with each other.

Text
To change the color of your text, that option is in the Object Properties window which pops up when you type text on the page. You can change the color of your text by double clicking the text so that it's back in edit mode (surrounded by a red box), select the text you want to change the color for and then choosing a color by clicking the color box in Object Properties.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
