VSD, WordPress and blogging - Post ID...

Greetings. I'm likely to sound like an idiot, but please bear with me. :)

I have recently started a blog using WordPress.org (provided by my host provider). However, as I'm sure others have found, I can't seem to find a theme that really feels right to me, if you know what I mean. So I was thinking of trying to create my own. However, I'm not quite sure how to go about doing that.

I'm pretty sure I read that I can design a website with VSD and use Flash Blogger to post blog entries. Do I still need any of my WordPress database? Would it be better to create it with VSD as an overlay, so to speak, for WordPress?

I'm more than likely going to be creating other non-blog websites as well, which is one of the reasons I'm interested in VSD. I used to code HTML back in the olden days, but it seems that with css, php and whatnot, what little I remember is pretty much useless. :)

Since I've only recently started it, I don't mind redoing it from scratch and just copy and pasting the blog entries I've done already. I'm just wondering what is the best way to go about doing it. I've been using CoffeeCup HTML and CoffeeCup FTP (free versions) so far to edit some of the WP themes, and using MS LiveWriter (which I'm not terribly fond of) for writing.

Any advice for a cluebie would be appreciated! :D

First of all, the CoffeeCup Flash blogger is nothing like WordPress. It is simply a Flash file with some posts that can be read and updated easily in the program and pasted into your site.. You have none of the other functions or features that you find in WordPress, such as responses, etc.

VSD is a simple WYSIWYG Editor and would work nicely if you want an easily made website in a visual environment without learning html/php/css, but it has limitations.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

I understand what each program does. I would be using Flash Blogger to replace Windows LiveWriter for writing/posting blog updates. And I understand VSD is a WYSIWYG editor.

What I'm asking, probably in a very unclear way, is whether I can create specifically a blog site using VSD, writing/updating blog posts with Flash Blogger, and, if so, should I try to do it incorporating WordPress or get rid of WordPress and just use VSD?

Yes, you can use the CC Flash Blog program to create and update posts and incorporate them into the VSD project. You can't incorporate WordPress into a VSD project, you can only link to it. You're not going to create a theme/skin/overlay for WP using VSD.

Ok, so I don't need WP at all then, correct? Cool, thanks! I'm downloading the trials now to check them out.

Good. That is the only way to compare WordPress to the CC Flash "Blog".

I'm not saying you don't need WordPress. Only you can decide that after you try out the trial version of the CC Flash Blog program and VSD.
