In preparing to open an on-line store I'm looking at Coffee Cup's "Shopping Cart Creator" and "Shopping Cart Designer" software...can someone tell me whether Shopping Cart Designer only builds on the store created with Shopping Cart Creator, or can I use S.C Designer by itself to create my store?

Shopping Cart Creator uses Templates I must choose from, whereas in Shopping Cart Designer I can edit the templates, or design my own...is that correct?

I know absolutely nothing about HTML, website creation, etc. -- hoping that with beginning with a trial version of Shopping Cart Designer (if it is stand alone) and lots and LOTS of reading through the support articles I'll learn, but at the moment my question is, as stated above: Do I have to have both programs if I want to make my own unique templates/pages for my store, or can I just use Shopping Cart Designer?

You only need Shopping Cart Creator to have a shop. But... If you want to edit the theme of the shop you need Shopping Cart Designer...

I would suggest you buy the Pro Versions as they have the better updates and allow you to do MUCH much more...

The SCCP (Shopping Cart Creator Pro) is a WYSIWYG editor. So you do not need to know much about HTML, but should still know a little.
