At last I think I have changed all the \ to / on my web site and I thank everyone who helped and advised. Now to get back to my good ranking with Google etc. But how? Where do I place the 'snippet'?
Grateful for all help and advice.

If you mean the Google verification meta tag, something like this:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="code_goes_here" />
that will have to be placed in the document header.
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="code_goes_here" />
that will have to be placed in the document header.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Thanks yet again Inger. Excuse me being very slow, but does this - google0bede448f7d2158f.html - go where you have - code_goes_here - ?
I've put it just under <head> . Hope that's right.
Just tried on the Home page at the moment.
You are all so patient with my lack of knowledge of technical terms.

Depends on how you got the code Helen.
I believe there are 2 different ways to do this verification. One is to put a code into your page(s) and the other is to download an html file and upload it to the root of your server. I usually choose the upload method myself just cuz it's easier, but I don't know if it matters as far as if one works better than the other or not.
Looks to me like you have the html file that you can just upload to your root directory where your index.html file is uploaded. Then go back to the google verification site to tell it you did it and it will check for that file. Looks like that is the method you chose.

Helen,
I believe you missed one \ on the home page. It is the links Button on the menu.

Thanks once again for looking after me!

Also just realized that the find box on the Links page is set to the left instead of centered...
Well, I would want someone to point these things out to me. Because I want to give each user that visits my site to have the same experience. Unless that user is on a 5 year old browser... That is their choice not mine. lol

I'm very pleased you are pointing these things out to me! Thank you. Now to try to get search engines interested!

Helen,
I would say start with your meta tags, and fill them out... The best way to do that is, search Google for the top ranking site in your category and steal some of theirs! It is working for them, so it should work for you...

When the site was originally online with ukonline I got right up the top! Bit confused as to how to go about it now! It seemed quite straightforward then!
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
