Sorry, thought I could figure it out!
I created a splash page, saved as index. Ultimately, the splash page will link to the public site and a private site. So I created a public_home and clicked on 'save as'. When I try to access it in VSD, it comes up as the original index page. All my work gone!!
I previewed the page in browser and it correctly previewed and that preview was saved.
When I try to open in HTML editor to tweak public_home, it is simply not there in any folder.
Ideas?

look under Documents\CoffeeCup Software\Visual Site Designer\public_home_website,
if public_home is the name you gave your vsd site when you saved.

It's not there. Yes, I named it public_home (without an extension) and clicked save. There is nothing in the VSD folder except a folder called Backups and when I click on the public_home file name it opens index (the splash page).
Once I had saved public_home, I opened the HTML Editor to tweak it. Does opening it in the Editor remove it from VSD? I thought I had hit save while in the Editor but there is nothing there but an empty Projects folder.
Within CoffeeCup, there is a folder called My Website. \CoffeeCup Software\My Website\public_home_website. The only thing in this folder are browser previews of the page that I built and two folders 'Files' and 'Images'.
Is there any article on your site that lays out how to work with VSD and the Editor? I understand you can import into the Editor but can't import back to the VSD.
Any help is appreciated. Trying to convince my client to purchase CC package!

If you make tweaks with the editor and publish the site with VSD your changes will be over wrote. Once you edit with an outside source you need to either stop publishing with VSD or use the add files tool and include the page with that.

I decided to give it another try and uninstalled all CC software and redownloaded. I built two pages, saving one as index and the other as public_home. Attached is a jpeg showing the index in the VSD editing mode and the public_home in preview mode.
Here is the problem. When I re_open public_home in VSD, it appears as index. The public_home file is nowhere to be found to re_edit it.
Am I doing something wrong? Or do I search for other software.
Thanks Eric,
Jeane

I'm totally lost on what your trying to accomplish. Here's my thinking. You trying to edit the index page in your site which will be renamed index.html even if you give the page the name home under the"Page id" in the Page properties box.

Hey Jeane, let me try this ...
You say you created 2 pages in VSD, on was named public_home and the other was named index.
If this is correct, and you saved the web site, then those files are still there.
When you open VSD you will only see 1 page displayed. If you click on 'Show Page' off the top menu, you should see both pages there and can select the one you wish to view.
Are you not seeing both pages there?
Or, did you create a 1 page web site called index, and another 1 page web site called public_home? If that is the case, when you open public_home the main page will be called 'index' because that is what is loaded first for a web site.
Let me know which way you are going. If you just want a splash page then create just 1 web site, with 2 pages. The 'splash' page should be named index while the other page or pages can be called anything. Although it is becoming common practice now to not use underscores _ in filenames. Some still use dashes -, but I'd do away with all that and just call your main page 'publicindex'.

Thanks for answer.
I created a website called Riviera Alta with the ID being index. With the index file still open, I clicked on Add Page and created Riveria Alta Public Site with the ID being public_home. VSD did create two folders (index website and public_home website). I don't know why because I didn't think I asked for that. In any case, when I open the public_home website, there is no vnu file there. And the public_home file does not appear under Show Page in the index website.
Clearly, I'm doing something wrong!
I want a splash page (index) and the Public link will link to the homepage for the public. Ultimately, there will be a whole directory for Residents that will be password protected.

I don't use VSD, but to me it sounds like you created two sites, not two pages of the same site. The 'Add page' should just add another page to the site you have started. It usually names this page 'page1' or so, and you can rename it.
Not sure about this, but maybe the word 'home' has messed up things. Some severs use 'index' as the first page, some use 'home'. Maybe try to give the second page a different name, like just 'public'?
There are enough users of VSD here, and I'm sure they can help you better than what I can.
