I have been using coffee cup with no problems for the last few months on my laptop. About 2 weeks ago I started getting the error message

"Received an abnormal reply to a RETR command. This happens e.g. when the server sends fewer bytes than expected. Typical situations are listings of empty directories or downloads of hidden file (filename starting with a '.'). [19] Additional information: RETR response: 425.
Server has replied: [425] Can't build data connection: Operation timed out.."

Whereas I can see the folder on the laptop with my HTML documents I cannot see the folder on the server.

I copied my source HTML to an old PC (runs under windows 7) I do not use anymore and was able to open cofffe cup (Version 4,2 build 1526) and update my website, however I would prefer to be able to do this from the laptop,

I have tried deleting and re installing coffe cup but no difference.

Any help will be appreciated

Hiya Mike,

What program are you talking about? CoffeeCup has many apps, so we need to know which one you're using in order to help you. :)

Same as Jo Ann is saying, and version 4.2.1526 sounds like a very much aged version if it's about any of the web building programmes. The only app that has a 4.2 version ow is the Image mapper. Is that what you are using?

Inger,

It is Coffee Cup Free FTP version 4.5 build 2015 which I am running under windows 8 on my laptop that has the problem, The older version 4.2 which I still have on an old PC that runs under windows 7 is working OK, however I hope to get rid of this PC shortly so it is not a long term solution,

Not sure if this is the culprit, but some people seem to have trouble with the turbo startup (or whatever it is called). Try turning it off. I can't tell you how since I'm on an old Vista laptop at the moment.

Hi, I have spent all day on this with no luck, I even installed Windows 8.1 but still the same problem. However I did manage to copy my source folder to a friends laptop which uses Windows 7, downloaded CoffeeCup Free FTP to that and managed to successfully update my website, I am now beginning to wonder is it something to do with Widows 8? The other thing I have found out is that when connecting to the server via my old PC and my friends laptop it will not work in passive mode. Any ideas arising out of all this?

Just something to check...Go to Edit/Preferences on the main menu and click the FTP button in the popup. Ensure that 'Detect FTP passive mode automatically' is checked.
