Making a 'Dynamic Tree' on CC...? -...

Hi - I'm brand new to this, but my brother has asked me to make him a website for his horse farm. I fully intend to use CC for this, as I don't really know html (though can edit it a bit - ebay...) and it looks perfect. His site sounds basic, except for one part. He needs a section on one page where he can list years, and when any one is clicked on it expands to show all breeding mares he had in this year, possibly with a pop-up pic of the mare and ability to click on pop-up to go to that mare's own page; OR when you simply click on the name of the mare a list expands below it showing that mare's foals. When clicking back on the mare or the year the section collapses back again - bit like the + and - boxes in windows explorer.

Sorry I don't have the technical terms - but any advice would be most appreciated.

Hi John,

You don't say WHICH CC programme you are thinking of. Since you say that you don't really know html, I guess you mean the Visual Site Designer (VSD). That application alone won't be able to create what you want, I'm afraid. You will need some php or java script in order to have the pages open the way you describe.

However, if you can do with a navigation bar holding the years, and having each of the years open a new page, each for one mare, you could get quite far towards what you have in mind. I hope someone who has more expertise in VSD will chime in here, as I'm a coder and am using the HTML Editor.

Paintbrush, or Jewelcraft, come over here, you are needed! ;)

Ha en riktig god dag!

Don't have any ideas off the top of my head - but would probably look for some sort of genealogy software for this. Just found this (Pedigree Software):
http://www.tenset.co.uk/
And another (Horsebiz):

Or maybe just put horses into a people program:
http://www.amazon.com/RootsMagic-Family … amp;sr=1-1

Awarded "Editor's Choice" by Heritage Quest Magazine. RootsMagic is an easy to use family tree program with extensive family history reports, multiple navigation views, photos, publishing, and website creation features. RootsMagic supports unlimited people, families, events, notes, and photos. Users can print complete books (where the program writes the sentences for each event), spectacular charts, forms, lists, and even create custom reports. RootsMagic program also provides multiple database support (with drag and drop), SourceWizard, todo lists, powerful merge features, and more. Full GEDCOM support allows users to easily share their data with others, or to easily import their data from other programs. Import directly from Family Tree Maker (v16 and earlier), PAF, Legacy, or Family Origins. Create shareable CDs of your data and photos to send to your family and friends.

It is usually quite easy to add things in to VSD, so you could create a page for something like this, then insert the chart into an IFrame or a Div. If you want to create your own chart, do some research on pop-ups and modal boxes (there's some how-tos on the CC forums as well as all over the 'net).

Let us know what you come up with, and if you need any help with it! :)

Ok I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread earlier as I couldn't find this one lol. Let's try this again...

I think this might be similar to what you are looking for. I haven't used any of this code, I just did a short google search for "expanding menus" and came up with lots of links, this one seems to be what you want for the most part, but you may need to alter it to your tastes of course. I don't know how old the code is or anything, I didn't look so you'll have to mess with that on your own. Try a google search for "expandable menus" or "collapsible menus" if this isn't exactly what you want, but this site gives you step by step instructions for implementing it so good luck on it :)

You're quite welcome John, good luck and hope it all works out for you as well as it has for many of the VSD users here :)
