I am testing out Web Editor as my new HTML/PHP tool on my iMac. I used to use Windows-based tools but have moved over to an iMac.
We website is already up and running on a server so I started with the "New Project > From Server" option and started to download my website. The site is fairly large and after a full day of downloading the software failed at the end claiming it had timed out.
I then decided that I'd just download a part of the website as a test but that brings up a couple questions ...
1) If I like Web Editor and decide to upgrade to the paid version, will I be able to add more files from my server to the project?
2) Is this the right way to even start the project? Should I just use FTP to download all my files to my harddrive and then start the project using these files? Will this connect correctly to the website already running on my server?
3) When I upload files will only the changed and new files be uploaded? I don't want to reupload all the image files that haven't changed.
4) I'm pretty sure of this answer but ... one of the things I liked about my old Windows software was that I could keep template files around and start new pages based on these templates. I don't see a feature exactly like this but do see the "snippets" feature. Can I use this for file templates? Will they hold that much information?
I'm sure I"ll have other questions but this should get me started on my test drive.
Thanks

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I have all the files but don't know if starting a project from the local files and then connecting them to the Server will in fact create the right kind of connection. Will it? Is there really no more connection than the file names?
I've had experience in the past using Visual Studio and there is a lot more to those projects than just file names.
If creating the project using the local copies of the files will do the trick then I'm all for it.

See this thread. I just helped another user.

I'm assuming the webeditor works the same because I don't have it.
