Thanks for all the help offered here. I've asked for all the files and folder structure to be sent through so that I can try adding the slider code using the HTML box in VSD. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.
Viv: You're right about the warning bells going off when I first looked at the site source code and I did ask them to show me the software they used to make it, and even warned them that the edits could be incompatible with their editor. I never did get the full information because of the hostility on the day I went to the owners place to work on the site (coding while him and the insecure hostile lady made snide comments and faces behind my back was awesome). The owner just wanted the job done so I got it done. It's an unfortunate and costly mistake that I will look back on as a lesson learned.
Hah! They should be grateful, not hostile towards you.
Make sure they understand that when you have fixed it this time, if they break it, they're on their own from then on.

Glange : treat yourself to a paid copy of any CC software, it will get you access to the full forum instead of just the guest thread you are in
Please bare in mind a large proportion of CC users (like myself) are amateurs, who the programs initially were designed for
you never know you might find a little assistance in the relevant VSD forum that could save you time and money
There are plenty of professional users especially of the award winning HTML editor , possibly more what you are used to
