Hey all.

I'm about to publish the website I've been beavering away on, but I could use some help with the terminology.

I have the account user name, account password, ftp host, ftp user name and ftp password as supplied by my webhost but I'm not sure how they relate to the entry fields VSD is asking for (which are Nickname, Server, Username, Password, Remote Folder and Port).

Could some kind soul run through what the VSD fields are referring to?

Zinc, If you are not using GoDaddy then just ignore the GoDaddy references in this post. For your username and password use your FTP username/password and you should be okay. The other settings should be as listed. Nickname can be anything you want. Let me know if you need more help.

In your FTP Account Settings...

Nickname: whatever you want ie: gunsmoke
Server: yourdomain.com
Username: yourgodaddyusername (NOT your godaddy account name/number)
Password: yourgoaddypassword (NOT your godaddy account password)
remote folder: leave this blank
port: 21
use passive checked

These are the setting for a GoDaddy server. Now, understand that your godaddy account username/password is not the same as your FTP username/password. If you do not have this information, or have lost it, contact Godaddy to get it.

If the remote folder is 'blank' then the files will be uploaded to your domain root. ie. http://yourdomainname.com
If you put /mysite/ in the remote folder then your site will be located at http://yourdomain.com/mysite

Hope this helps, let us know if you still need more . . .

Thanks Gunsmoke, that was exactly what I was after.

The connection test has come back successful, so we are nearly ready for contact :)
