Hi,

Been recommended Coffee Cup as it had the screen (on the one I was shown it was inbetween the Code Editor and Preview tabs) on which you're able to directly edit the webpage. I've since downloaded a version and it doesn't have this.

Can any of you offer help with this?

Thanks,
Jean

I'm assuming your talking about the CC HTML Editor.
Click on Tools/preferences/ On the General tab un-check the "Hide Visual Editor Tab".
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

The HTML Editor doesn't have the ability to directly edit the webpage on the server if that's what you're after. If you're after the Visual Editing tab, then that's what Eric is talking about.

Also keep in mind that if you decide you want to do visual site designing then the Visual Site Designer would be your most beneficial choice as the HTML Editor does not play well between the code and visual tabs so there isn't an advantage there. VSD has a lot more features and is built primarily for visual site designing where the HTML Editor is more primarily code designing.

If you try swapping between the 2 tabs (visual and code) in the HTML Editor, it will mess your code up pretty badly, the 2 formats do not play well together. So if you're after the visual WYSIWYG type editing, I would highly suggest you check out the Visual Site Designer program instead of the HTML Editor.

Thanks guys,

Yep, it's the Visual Editing tab that I was after, and have that all set up as such:

Code Editor (HTML) and the 'hide Visual Editor' button unchecked.

It's coming up with a message saying "The visual editor has been disabled because you are using a HTML5 DOCTYPE" etc etc. What other doctype is recommended? And how can I get it so that I can use the visual editor?

Jo Ann, thanks for your advice, but I have already bought the HTML editor as it came highly recommended and so cannot go back now. Will just have to work with this the best I can!

Many thanks,

Jean

Visual Editor is not (nor ever will be) compatible with HTML 5. In order to use VE tab you will need to choose ANY other doctype.
