Hi
I've just downloaded HTML editor. Can you advise me the methods on getting started please.

I've just read the EditorHelp.pdf document and also tried some of the ways to build a web-site.

I'd like to avoid using Themes if I can and write as much of the help myself as possible together with using css.

I've tried using getting going with Coffee Cup a few years ago and found that I was never able to take off the ground very much. But saying that I do like the new Preview screen which I've never seen before which will help me a lot more.

I really want to be able to create a decent website. Please can you give me some more tips I can follow in order to persuade me to buy the licence this time.

I would start with a Google search for:

HTML Tutorials Free

CSS Tutorials Free

and also go to http://www.w3schools.com where there are also tutorials as well as most of the standard procedures that are acceptable in today's code world.

The place to start is to learn how to do the code as you check out the program. There's no easier way to do this so if you're looking to not code and would rather use a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) visual editor you should try CoffeeCup's Visual Site Designer instead.

Good luck no matter which way your venture takes you and if you get stumped on something, feel free to ask questions about specifics and there's usually someone around to help out

Sometimes starting with a theme and altering it is the easiest way for a new user to learn html and css.

I would say, open the html Editor, then choose New from Quickstart, and then try something very simple.

Example: Make a page about yourself (you don't have to publish it if you don't want to), your baby boy, your dog or whatever.
Make a header
Insert a picture,
write some text.
Insert a link to something, like Coffeecup,
make a list for Santa next year (or your hobbies or something else).

This way you will become familiar with the tool bar.
Then next time around, open the New from Quick start again and explore the various options you have there. You can change background colour or use an image as a background, change links colours, fonts... you name it, and the changes will then take effect when you preview your work, and you will see the css appearing at the top of the document.

Just play around with these basic things until you have got familiar with what a button in the tool bar does if you click it. Also go to the w3schools that Jo Ann mentioned, and find a tutorial for both html and css.

When you have mastered the very basic and know what will happen if you make changes, time will be right to open one of the themes and try changing it.

Thanks everyone - sometimes I find it difficult to decide whether to go down the more technical route or keep it simple!!! Especially as I've never created a very good website before
I'm going to stick to HTML-Editor route though - its now a case of practicing with it now.

I would recommend the Website Projects option. It'll keep you organized and make sure you have everything in place when you go to upload.
As for themes, the default templates are more like standard webpage layouts than themes. If you're going to have a header, navigation, content and footer, you might as well pick one of them to get going with.

I've just opened the Oxidacion project but not sure how to use to create my own web-site from there. To me, I would have to completely remove all the html and .css spreadsheet and start again so I'm not sure I see the benefit in starting off with this template. Am I approaching this correctly?

Also I'm not sure how to load the forum.html part of the website - the content is also all in a Spanish which doesn't help me to understand the purpose of what I would replace the text with. Its not very good for a beginner to see loads of foreign words alongside a possible new language like html etc which I'm trying to learn.

Where did you find that project, Matt? I can't see it listed anywhere.

I'm at work so I don't have CoffeeCup installed but I just clicked File > New > Open Website project. I then had to choose Open a new website or Open a New website. I chose New Website.

It sounds like its a good thing that I mention that I'm still having trouble.

I think that maybe its re-opened one of the Themes that came pre-installed with CoffeeCup that I was playing with the other day.

The Theme has a dark red background if you know which one it is.

Help!!!!
